I will give a cold water shave a go shortly. Save on the heating bill now I'm looking for hundreds of pounds to quench my new addiction as robbyflex pointed out to me I got into de shaving to save money... How ironic
Everyone should have at least one huge brush. I have one that basically covers the area between my mouth and ear and just tears soap up. I thought you would really enjoy it and it. I'll bring might out next week.
Cold will help stop any small weepers/nicks basically. If I have a more serious cut I will use a cold towel and use it as a compress to help close it up. It also helps close up the pores following the shave.
Razor: Gillette Milord w/case and blade pack Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (2) Brush: Omega Professional Boar 10049 Soap: Route 66 Bourbon Jungle A/S Myrsol Blue My idea of a BBS isn't just a close shave, but when all elements of the shave come together. Starting with an excellent brush to go with an outstanding shave soap, accompanied by a great razor and blade, with an amazing aftershave to finish. Tonight is a BBS for sure. The Milord with the Astra Platinum provided everything one would want in a razor blade combination. Bourbon Jungle catches your nose as soon as you open the container. It loves water, but once you know that prepare yourself for a Rich woody notes of Italian Bergamot, Apple Wood and Tonka Bean rounded by hints of Patchouli, Cedarwood, and Oakmoss, with exotic notes of Cardamom, Vanilla Bourbon and Allspice. The shave tonight was a BBS for sure. The finish with Myrsol Blue could not have been better. That to me is how you get a BBS. IMHO.
Yeah and when I consider it crazy too you know something is up. Actually I've tried cold water shaving and I do think there are some potential benefits, but I just don't want to give up the comfort of warm/hot shaves.
Thank you so much for your kind words Clint. I also want to thank for your generosity with the gift coupon at Italian Barber. I put it to good use.
You are right about the coverage. And yes, everyone should have one monster brush! I love this brush. Love!!
Day 2 Potential bad one. I had a hot shower scrubbed my head with Nivea exfoliating scrub followed by a cold soak and shave oil once again I was over confident wtg 1st pass but I had words with my self and corrected my 2nd and 3rd pass. I enjoyed cold shaving the razor feels great cold. Once again no sting from the alum however the fine snake bite has and still is burning like hell which leads me to think I'm in for a burner. This is where I agree with Douglas although I am sporting a bbs all the pieces didn't come together as beautifully as my first bbs yesterday. So I will be putting tonight's down as a bad one. Baby butt smooth but burning like hell does not count I'm sure you'll all agree. My over confidence is frustrating as it's not in my nature and it's my main focus every shave. Glad u had a good one Douglas
Since the alum didn't sting, I would have thought your shave was pretty good. Are you sure it isn't just that the Snake Bite doesn't just burn? I have one or two after shaves that burn no matter how good the shave was, in fact they burn if I don't even shave. My understanding of the Snake Bite was that it purposefully bit some.
That is my hope and I take no sting from alum as sign of a good shave but I always use snake bite and it burns for 5 minutes max and then goes ice cool for the next hour it's been 20 minutes and still burning I will have to wait and see there are no signs of razor burn yet
Probably just the aftershave. Before you shave tomorrow splash some on and see if it burns the same way. if it does then its not the shave its the snake bite. I've used an aftershave that did that to me.
I'm starting to think not having a variety of products is a problem. Perhaps my skin is adapting to using the same things time and again.
As far as the 30 day rule, changing aftershaves is not an issue. Just keep the brush, razor, blade and soap or cream the same. At least until you have the technique down.
A quick shoutout! To @Drygulch for sending me some early xmas cheer. Check below for the haul. Only thing missing is the other razor pouch he sent. I forgot to put it in the picture. The razor on the right is a W.B. Speed Rabbit. Very nice razor, all honed and ready to go. The one on the left? Well we won't talk about it just quite yet. But you guys who know straights will undoubtedly notice a difference between them. Or two. Or three. Or more. Some of you who aren't straight experts may notice it too.
I keep trying to put mine away and stay with other razors but it always finds its way back into rotation. They get a lot of bad press for being mild, yet deliver great shaves in most cases.
This is my problem that I intend to remedy this coming pay day I'm also getting a brush as the tutorial I followed showed a technique lathering by hand which involves keeping one hand soaped at all times so I am shaving my whole head with one hand which can't be good for technique although I'm getting used to it
