Anti-social decadence. It doesn't get any more decadent than that.

Naw. He's just an old-fashioned kind of Westerner. One of those strong, silent types who shaves with his Bowie knife without using any poofy special scented soap to help and then just doesn't talk about it as he goes about his daily business, wrestling grizzly bears and so forth...

BTW, I remember reading an article about King Gillette years ago, and the writer commented that the year he died (during the Depression) one of the papers carrying his obit also had a human interest story about how lumberjacks in Oregon were giving each other perfect shaves ... with well-honed axes. Anybody here ever tried that?

Back to the real world after a relaxing and enjoyable weekend. The big 400 can whip up a mountain of lather easily and this morning was no exception. Two passes, XTG & ATG, followed by minimal touch ups ending in a near BBS. I ready for what I hope will be a great start to an uneventful week. I hope everyone as a fantastic Monday.

    Razorock Plissoft Brush
    Stirling Frozen Tundra
    Gillette Fatboy
    Stirling Unscented PSB
    Aqua Velva AS

When I got out of my truck and realized I had forgotten my jacket, I almost regretted my Menthol Monday decision this morning. It was our first sub freezing morning of the winter, and it was cold walking in gym shorts and short sleeve shirt. Luckily, I got warmed up a few minutes later, and that Stirling Frozen Tundra freeze felt refreshing. Once again, the Feather and Fatboy worked in perfect unison to provide a smooth shave, even if I rushed it a bit as I was running late. I added a little more menthol blast from the Aqua Velva, and my last Monday for two weeks is off to a great start. I hope everyone has a great day!

I don't quite live up to the daring reputation of this board. I only have one decent scare from an actual shave related incident, far fewer than most on here!

    Thank you Jim

Your photo today captured the way it feels here with the cold front that just blew through. Brrr. Winter hasn't started and I think I am ready for summer

Thank you, Clint. It definitely felt like an appropriate picture. Us Southerners aren't used to this cold. I mean it 31 degrees out this morning, and I almost had to call work to say I couldn't make it!

    December 19 - brushless

    Schick J3 Hydromagic / Personna white (1)
    Burt's Bees Natural Shave Cream
Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Original and styptic pencil

I disliked the Burt's Bees yesterday but conceded I might not have used it properly, so I gave it a second chance today. Remembering the mantra around here "Use more product", I slathered on four times as much, rubbed it in and then spread it around on top so I was wearing a visible thin white mask. I then grabbed my trusty Schick J3, loaded a fresh blade, and proceeded to have the most wretched shave of recent memory.

I reopened the areas at both corners of my mouth where I had almost completely healed weepers, and gave myself a fresh one on my throat to match. And when the alum hit, my entire neck felt hot. After rinsing off the alum with cold water and applying witch hazel, I still had to use the styptic pencil to make the blood spots go away.

I would suspect the problem was partly a dud blade, except my cheeks and upper lip are perfectly fine. The closest I have ever felt to this with the Schick was when I tried to dryshave with it once.

Throughout this entire spalike experience, I also got to enjoy the fresh outdoorsy ambience provided by this shave product. As near as I can identify the scent, it's a combination of mothballs and half-rotten oranges.

Burt's Bees brushless cream has just become the first shave soap I have ever thrown in the garbage. Between the performance and the scent, I'm not willing even to use it as a hand soap.

:happy102: I know what you mean. It is just a damp cold morning. At least with the girls home, I didn't have to take the dog for her walk. ;)

    Razor: F2 Gillette FatBoy (4)
    Blade: GSB (1)
    Brush: VdH Boar
Soap: Mineral Fusion + Dove Hydrating Cream

It's Monday and time to shave the whiskers that grew all weekend. (What can I say, I got lazy this weekend.) I wasn't feeling particularly adventurous today so I went with a fairly "safe" setup- the FatBoy and a GSB backed by a Superlather. It was definitely a good choice as there was no blood (first Monday in a few weeks to claim that), quiet Alum, and a DFS+ bordering on BBS.

Okay, I have to admit, I'm really liking this razor and find myself reaching for it more and more.
