View attachment 182491 OK, got my 4/4 Focus done so it's time for enjoying Decadence. The Tabac got lonely and a little dry but a couple minutes with a sprinkle of water on the puck juiced it right up. That blooming for anyone who was wondering. Let the boar knot warm up in the bowl while I popped a blade in two. It was slightly used so the Red got a fresh of the same brand. Lather whipped up thick, applied a little too thick, got some additional hydration while enjoying a scrubby application. I took an all over N to S generally WTG pass with the shavette. With two days growth the blade felt good - no hesitation. Briefly I considered X or ATG but nixed that. Need to familiarize my hands with SR grips before I start nicking up my mug. So the Red Tip came in for two passes, a little clean up, and no errors. Left a little on my lower neck so it's a CCS, but smooth on my cheeks. I can see a Shavette January happening. Maybe get to a complete procedure with no DE cleanup by end of next month.

December 2018 Recap

Overall another very good month. I dialed in the Supply SE razor with the Proline blade. The Supply has become one of my favorite razors. I did manage to finish off one more soap before adding several over Christmas. As usual the best part of the month was following the thread. Thanks for letting me tag along. I am looking forward to next month.

It's the final day of Decadent December and no better way to finish the month than with an Aristocrat. In this case, it was my "Impoverished Patrician" a down-on-its-heels 48-50 that I picked up a few months ago. I'm not sure I've tried in it the past with the 7 o'Clock Permasharp, but the combo worked out very well and made for a great end to the month.

This has definitely been an interesting month. Lots of great shaves despite a business trip and a bout of the flu. Thank you all for another great month.

Only two more Decadent December shaves in 2018 so I need to make them count. Let's go back to the Gillette Toggle. Add a Sharp Star blade from Moscow. Then, put the Canuck and Stirling Orange Chill together for the lather. Yep, that works when you're looking for a decadent shave. Always a pleasure to handle the Toggle and running it wide open guarantees a good shave. The Orange Chill is not an overpowering scent, but strong enough to make its presence known and really adds to the shave. The menthol gives it that nice kick and chill to the finish.

Two passes and some extra touch up on the neck that created a couple of weepers. Nothing too bad. Nice near-BBS finish and we're down to one shave left in 2018. Hard to believe we've made another year pass already.

A reminder that the January 2019 30DC thread will not open until tomorrow closer to midnight. With only one more day to go in this year I have to say it's been the best year here in the 30DC so far. Both in numbers and in quality of posts, pictures, gear, however you want to measure it. I can't wait to see where we go in 2019.....but we'll start that journey in about 26 hours. This is the third shave of my shavette focus. I performed two passes with quite a bit more ATG action and touch ups. Other than a couple of small sit down errors, it was a nice shave. The Soap Commander lather was slick and abundant. I am finally getting the hang of using a synthetic brush. The alum was fairly quiet. Today is no scent Monday (except for the soap), since I'm off to see my kids at the hospital.

I had one little nick on a finger tip due to inattention. Definitely my fault here and a good reminder to take extra care with the shavette.

Well guys, as this month draws to a close, I'd be remiss if I didn't pass along my heart felt thanks. With y'all's help, my Lathers have truly been Decadent!!! Be it a cream, croap, or soap. I learned what a real badger brush can do, and how to use it successfully! I learned that the quality of a brush can and does affect the lather, but in the end the guy driving the brush is in control.
I have made friends here, I have laughed at stories told, celebrated successes and mourned failures, but in the end, I learned much more than I thought ever possible.

The 30dc has help with my technique and I feel I am getting better shaves because of it. I only broke the 30dc challege when I switch to the Oneblade synthetic brush and the one time I shaved with my new to me adjustable Executive. You cannot blame a man for doing that. Looking forward to next month so I can try out some new toys.

This has been a great 30 days for me and the shenigans have been fun.

Good morning!

Excellent shave from the Dart to start the day! Three passes to BBS result.
288 shaves this year if I kept track correctly. I've never kept track before but I'm sure this is a record for me. I have made terrific progress this year! From knicks, weepers and razor burn from every razor in my den to shaves like this morning's from any razor in my collection. I have you guys to thank with all the advice and support from the 30DC.

DECadent December was a wonderful month. I used all my hardware at least once and no repeat on soaps and aftershaves. January will continue the no repeat theme with the software and focus on synthetic brushes. It's not that I can't whip up a proper lather with a synthetic I just don't get the pleasure from using them that I get from my natural hair brushes. Maybe after a month of strictly synthetics I'll be more likely to reach for them as part of the regular rotation.

I'm not going to do a NB19 but I am going to cut way back on my purchases and enjoy what I have now. I see me treating myself on my birthday then try and hold out until next year's black Friday deals.

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
Blade: Kai Captain Mild
Safety Razor: RazoRock Black Hawk
Straight razor: Boker 5/8
Brush: Surrey badger
Soap: Country Club for Men Cahaba Blues
Post: Witch hazel, Country Club for Men Sweet Water aftershave

Used the Boker straight on my cheeks. Not that great of an experience. I don't think straights are in my future. Tons of respect for those that use them and get great shaves. Finished everything off in two passes with the Black Hawk for a smooth shave. Three days' growth so there was plenty to mow down. Today's software was in homage to Country Club for Men which closed up shop and rebranded earlier this year. A local fellow owns it and I wish him the best in his new endeavors.

Happy New Year, everyone! 2018 has been a blast in this thread. Looking forward to 2019 with lots of anticipation.

Decided to finish up this year with my favourite cream, Castle Forbes, the same as used by @Primotenore . This always delivers copious amounts of slick lather. This Omega silver tip is super soft, big and feels luxurious. The edge was sweet so I was surprised this was not an epic shave. It has only been 18 hours between shaves so that maybe the reason.

I got off work after an all-weekend shift, so it was time for a relaxing shave. I last shaved Friday night, so I had three days of stubble to knock down. For that, I abandoned the Fendrihan Lavender Sandalwood soap sample and went with my old reliable mainly-tallow Italian soap mix. It always provides a great protective lather with a slick residue for touchups. Tonight was no exception.

When I first got the Fatip, it felt smooth but gave me a lot of weepers. Tonight it was just smooth. The first pass had me back from stubble field to DFS, and the second one brought me to BBS everywhere. Even the usual small trouble patches under my jawline are cleanshaven tonight. Great shave! I should use the Fatip more than I do -- but then, I say that about a lot of razors now...

Lucky Tiger for some good skincare, then a splash of the TSD Bay Rum on top of that just because I wanted the scent.

Soap: Country Club for Men Cahaba Blues
Post: Witch hazel, Country Club for Men Sweet Water aftershave

Used the Boker straight on my cheeks. Not that great of an experience. I don't think straights are in my future. Tons of respect for those that use them and get great shaves. Finished everything off in two passes with the Black Hawk for a smooth shave. Three days' growth so there was plenty to mow down. Today's software was in homage to Country Club for Men which closed up shop and rebranded earlier this year. A local fellow owns it and I wish him the best in his new endeavors.

Happy New Year, everyone! 2018 has been a blast in this thread. Looking forward to 2019 with lots of anticipation.
