Shaving Recipe For the day.

Prep: Warm shower / Cussons Imperial Leather ~ Arctic Ocean & Icelandic Moss Shower Gel.

Pre:
Cold wet flannel to my face.
Yardley ~ English Lavender Bar Soap + Wilko Men's shave Oil.
Brush: Unbranded Turkish Boar.
Bowl Lather.
Tesco's Ceramic 'Cosmo' Side Bowl.
Uber/Superlather: Derby Lemon Shaving Cream + (Grated) Arko Shave stick Dettol Original Anti Bacterial Soap, & Palmolive Classic Shave Stick.
Blade: Mers ~ Super Shave X Platinum. (2)
Razor: Parker ~ 55SL Semi-Slant.

Post:

Cold Water Face Rinse./Homemade (~Winter mix~) peppermint lavender eucalyptus, + Tea Tree essential Oils Witch Hazel Mixture./Osmanli ~ Lemon Eau De Cologne./Wilko ~ Fruits Lemon & Black Pepper Body Butter.

A relaxing Sunday morning shave.

This morning i fancied a Turkish theme shave so i went for my Arko Derby & Palmolive Classic shave stick endings Arko & Derby lemon shaving cream which created a wonderful concoction of slick protective super lather for the full shave.
A enjoyable 3 pass + pick ups CC shave with no errors to report...Finishing the shave off with a small dollop of Wilko ~ Lemon & Black Pepper Body Butter.

My face is feeling silky smooth & smelling divine.

I woke up early and started seeing all the MWF conversations with @9ein9 and decided to make some lather and see what I may be doing differently. I didn't want to take time to presoak a brush, so I went with a synthetic and I didn't pre-soak the MWF. I do have a ceramic dish and I did use it. I then rinsed, fished out my puck of Williams, and lathered it in my hand. Then rinsed and lathered the MWF loading and then finishing in my hand. I did notice a few things.

The first thing I noticed is I splay the brush heavily both when loading and when lathering. While I do cover the MWF puck with water before I begin, most of that water spills over the sides as soon as I start loading. The initial overly wet suds form and I lot them spill off into the sink. I then continued to load. That's when I noticed. Loading in the ceramic disk I saw soap seep through the bristles near the handle a lot sooner. I continued to load until the light foamy lather started to develop. Instinctively, I lifted the brush. Scooped that loose foam into the well created by splaying by brush, then masked it back down on top of the puck as I continued to load. I kept doing this, losing some lather, but not as much as I thought into the sink. Not planning to shave just yet, I continued to build the lather in my hand. Again, with the brush heavily splayed working the brush into the palm of my hand. I did this until enough lather was squashed out the sides to then scoop that back into the splay cavity of the brush and mash it back down onto the palm of my hand. As I did this, I noticed a small amount of lather was forced out through the bristles. I did stop and think, well that works, but I face lather, I don't do that on my face...

So, I put the brush on my face and started lathing. The first thing I did was splay the brush, work up some lather, gather the forming lather into a pile on my cheek, and mash the brush onto it splaying and working the brush in small circles. Eventually, I end up with enough lather and I just paint it across my face to even things out.

Interesting that how I build lather and how I thought I built lather is so different. It's an automatic action like putting on my seatbelt when I get in the car. If you asked me I would say I put my seatbelt on then put the car in gear, but I know, because my dad pointed it out, that I put the car in gear and put my seatbelt on as I start pulling out of my space. Funny how that goes.

The lather is formed deep in the bristles of the brush. You have to force water through those bristles while agitating. I think I noticed that Williams lather built on the tips of the brush and MWF built in the center. If that holds true, it would explain why people seem to be able to make one soap work and not the other.

With the 3rd batch of lather, I decided to just pull out my Dovo and shave. I'd been building lather on my face for several minutes and figured I might as well. DFS, my whiskers weren't quite ready, but I made it work.

The picture was taken after the shave. That's the lather left after 3 passes and setting while I cleaned up. It's showing its age, but still good lather.

SOTD SUNDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 6, 2020

Woke up to a very cool, sunny 28 degree morning here in the western Philadelphia suburbs. My Feather DX mug focus continues as do my decisions regarding my safety razor collection. My Tradere review led to the sale of that razor, currently wending its way to California. In that same spirit, I've halved my AC safety razor collection from 4 to 2. My SS Hawk V3 and my green aluminum Hawk V2 are on their way south along with a new magazine of Feather AC Supers.

Next on the block for review this morning was my SS Supply V2. Even before I began this morning’s shave, I pretty much knew it was staying. It's just a magnificent shaver. This morning I loaded a fresh Schick Twinjector blade, and had at my noggin. One ATG pass effectively sheared my stubble right down to the skin line. The shave with the Twinjector reminded me of my Shake Sharp dome shaves with stacked DE blades. All that I really needed to do was some selective buffing after that first pass, but I enjoy my shaves too much! So I lathered up for a wholly unnecessary second pass which ended another great shave leaving me refreshed, clean and velveteen smooth!

RAZOR: Feather Wood Handled DX (Mug), Supply SS V2 (Dome)
BLADE: Feather Super AC (Mug), Schick Twinjector (Dome)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: Rooney Ebony Badger
SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH and Osage Rub.

1)Water was on it for for approximately 45mins.
2) Applied pasty with brush like someone mentioned to me the other day. Used paintbrush strokes to try to keep it even.
3)Added water to puck . Also added a bit to tip of brush at one point too in an attempt to thin paste out.

Fantastic shave to start the day! Three passes for near BBS. Nearly silent alum.

The Ti Slim is a wonderful addition to the den. With a shallow angle I get a smooth easy shave.

Still struggling with the gelled boar. It works but I have to spend a lot of time loading to get enough lather for my three passes. I'll keep at it and hope it gets better with use.

This weekend is going by entirely too quickly. I've decided to make SV Manna di Sicilia my Sunday shave soap for now. As always, this is subject to change with my mood. The big C-Mon did a fantastic job loading and lathering the SV soap. Three passes and touch ups ended in a drama free BBS shave today. Swati and I are off to visit my Mom for the afternoon. That's a shame about your troubles with MWF. If you can get a better lather with Williams that's saying plenty. I have hard water so I won't buy MWF. I suspect that you have hard water also. You can try using distilled water, or adding glycerin. I know, I know. Why go through all that nonsense to get that soap to lather. I have read that if you bloom it with warm for a week, that it will break in. However, you have to use it almost daily otherwise it goes back to being a difficult soap to lather. Good luck.

i get that.i enjoy using a schick for the same reason,just different and equally effective..a change per say..they are cool to look at as well.i really enjoy the 30-50s era razors the most.the older ones,gillette included seem too much before my time/era of interest..

good morning gents .the sunday shave.1st gen brit #15 aristocrat/platinum combo,fine MWF lather built with the rubberset 200-3 boar,resuliting in a smooth 2+ pass bbs .
my MWF procedure..
i will add a little water to the puck if i haven't used it for a while and let it soak while i soak the boar brush and fit the blade to razor,usual prep.i drain any water left on the puck.i make sure the brush is damp .not dripping.,giving it a good squeeze and a flick or 2.i then swirl the brush tips LIGHTLY on the puck but for a good 30-45 seconds,very little bubbles if any,just a creamy residue on the puck,checking for a good load once or twice.at first i transfered to the bowl,building a creamy paste and working it,then i add drops of water slowly and work it some more.when i get the consistency i want ,it's off to the races.i have experienced a little dissipation once in a while but was my error.it is a little finicky compared to others.we have very soft water in this region.one can lather most anything here..
finished up the shave with a little twisted thayers and burberry brit edt.awesome..have a great day everyone..
