Anyone got any idea how it is with the "new" Derbys.. I only have older ones.. Should be good to know if Derbys gone bad.. It is one of my fav blades..
I'm not exactly a long-term DE user, and even less so of the Derby's. But I wonder about the: "CHROMIUM-CERAMIC-PLATINUM-TUNGSTEN and POLYMER COATED EDGES" statement on the box that apparently and perhaps optimistically, differentiates them from their competition. I'd be happy with just: "SMOOTH and EFFORTLESS". Admittedly, I find myself trying to use blades for too long of a period of time, something that I was able to get away with when I was using carts. Perhaps that tendency is influencing my luck with the Derby's.
I'm definitely getting poorer performance from these new portrait oriented blades than I got from last years batch. Still a little better than the walmart personnas, but absolutely nowhere near as good as last year's Derbys. I've been skipping a couple of extra shaves a week just to make one blade stretch for a full seven days. With last year's batch, I could almost forget to change my blade until about the 8th or 9th shave if I wasn't careful.
The cash vault where I have worked *Big Bank*checks for counterfeit by scratching the collar of the president in the portrait.(Works on everything but old $50's) If you can't feel the ridges in the collar with your finger nail, its fake, its something that hasn't been able to be duplicated, not to mention most fakes are so obvious like washing a $5 and the reprinting it as a $100 etc. Back to the Derby's can't say I have that issue, never used them
Here's my first impression of the changes... I happen to get a new box of 100 from some winnings the day after I used a Derby blade from last year. I used the same razor, soap, brush combo and I got an identical shave from both blades and couldn't tell any difference between the two. However, it is possible that I just so happen to get a good blade from both batches and I don't think one shave per blade is really enough to base an opinion on. Derby's haven't worked well for me in my HD, Slant, or Futur so I rarely use them, but they performed quite well in the Ming Shi.
I have some of the older Derby blades as well as the new ones and while the packaging is different I notice no difference in shave quality. I like 'em Wp
I've just brought a few thousand Derbys back from Turkey and I don't see any difference between the new stock and older batches. Good shave although the very first pass with a new blade pulls a bit - similar to Merkur blades. Packaging for Perma-Sharp (another great Turkish blade) has totally changed - from plastic to card boxes and individually wrapped blades - more environmentally friendly I suppose, but still an outstanding shave. Hope this helps
