I use a glycerine soap before shaving. I have the impression that it makes the hairs softer and with face lather afterwards, I get some good results.
Yeah, Williams is almost certainly made with the standard modern soapmaking process, where the tallow is hydrolyzed, the glycerin removed, the fatty acids are saponified in a hot kettle, a few additives are put in including a little bit of glycerin, then it's stamped into neat little pucks (milled). Judging by the ingredient list, the soap is made with tallow and coconut oil, which are pretty standard issue. The Potassium Stearate is interesting. Stearic acid is great for shaving soap, as it has the ideal long lived fine lather. What's odd is that they made a soft potassium soap from it, possibly to soften the puck a bit. The amount of glycerin they add back into the soap is probably tiny, judging from the ingredient order. Like many commercial bath soaps, it can be a bit drying because the glycerin is removed and there are no moisturizers added. The high stearic content can be a bit rough too, as while it makes great lather, it's a fairly harsh soap.
Yeah, that's what I figured. When I add some water it isn't sticky anymore. I'm just putting it on my face directly after shaving and letting it air dry. My face does seem to have a little added moisture from it.
I found a 1 oz bottle of glycerine. Having read up on the issue, I added 2 drops per ounce of various a/s. After adding it to Aqua Velva - which I'd already boosted with crystal - I can say that the cool/tingly sensation is definitely lasting longer than it did before. I can only assume it's the glycerine that's making that happen as it's the only thing I've done different. Good idea to use glycerine; wish I'd done it sooner!
When in Toledo there's only one place to eat... Tony Packo's,!!! And what's better than an ice cold soda (or barley pop :eatdrink047) to wash down one of their famous Hungarian hot dogs? Who needs the water? I was lucky enough that my sister went to college there. She would take me every weekend to get a dog, and back then a soda. Used to have the best time hanging out with my big sister and her friends, she always had cute friends!:love008
Speaking of dogs, here's a question for anyone familiar with Ohio to answer. I'm a transplant to this state and for the life of me I can NOT figure out why Skyline is so popular. There's some spice in the sauce on their dogs - I think it's allspice but can't say for sure; reminds me of pumpkin pie - that it absolutely disgusting in that context. Anyone know what the heck it is? :sick007
Never heard of it in Youngstown either. And speaking of glycerine -- a drop or 2 will last years. And if it's not your lather you're interested in improving -- the softness of your skin makes it well worth the 2 drops/shave.
