Actually, that frog blade bank is pretty awesome! I'm guessing it's an antique?
I doubt you could find anything like that today.

the price they're asking for this on eBay seems rather cruel

    This.
I even put a coat of paint on mine to make it look better than a crappy can with a slot in it under the cabinet.

$54.99 for the frog, when you can get the pig for half that.

I second this, once you have used the blades that was once in the dispenser just simply throw it away. Easy.

After scouring eBay several times for the perfect vintage coin bank, I found this little novelty toolbox for a couple bucks in the checkout line at Harbor Freight. Works great.

I use a half pound size antique Molle brushless shaving cream jar that has a screw on lid. Haven't filled it up yet.

I have seen several varieties of old cans in Antique shops, and I am considering snagging a few and seeing how they'd work as blade banks.

    Retro Cool....

I printed a decent looking, colorful sheet saying "Used Blades" and wrapped it around a soda pop can and taped it on. Simply put the used blades into the can through the normal opening that you pour the soda out of. When it gets full, which will probably be long after I'm gone, simply tape over the opening and recycle the whole thing.

    Regards,
    Tom

I us an empty Lyle's Golden Syrup tin. It will probably take some ages to get it filled to the top, but by then I may have emptied another one... ;)

What always surprises me is how heavy (relatively speaking) a full blade bank can be seeing how little a blade weighs.
