Mr. Curious again, folks. (No, I never worked as pollster for Gallup or one of those annoying mall surveys! ) Just wondering about the different lathering techniques and who likes what... Most all of us use a brush. But where do you go from there? Do you like to lather directly on your face, use one or even two bowls, a scuttle, or what? Inquiring minds really do want to know!
I misplaced my chalice from the palace..... :ashamed001 Now I use a violet pot (see the review) http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4159#post4159
I voted "OTHER". Hey, its just the way I am. 5-09-07 update: Mainly lathering on my face now *********************** Usual procedure is to dump hot water onto soap for a cuppa minutes. Take hot soapy water to lather bowl and hot, damp brush to soap puck. After brush is loaded, b4 I build my lather, I dip my fingers onto the warm soapy puck and then take some of that to my face. Rub it in really well with my fingers to build a "pre-lather", if you will. Create the real suds in my lather bowl and then take it to my ugly puss.
Other: When shaving with creams, I lather in a bowl; with soaps, on my face. why? I have no idea but it works for me! Interestingly, I may be the only one using a bowl, a large pyrex measuring behemoth, and a cup. the brush goes into the cup, then the cup is placed into the bowl. after adding microwaved water to the cup and the bowl everything is placed on top of the pyrex. Mmmmmmmmm, nice and warm! Marty
Okay, it occured to me after I posted that some of you "young folks" might not know what a "chalice from the palace" is unless you watch old movies like I do. (And yes, it is off topic, but I felt like it needed explanation.) That comes from the 1956 Danny Kaye movie, The Court Jester. Here is a little of the dialog from Reel Classics: http://www.reelclassics.com/Audio_Video/Quotes7r/kaye_courtjester_vesselpestle.wav If you can get this on Netflix or at Blockbuster, you should check it out! Okay, back to the lather!
Haven't seen that movie in a while. Along with Bing Crosby's "A Connecticut Yankee in King Author's Court."
I do a little bit of everything. Mostly use my mug. Sometimes a bowl, sometimes right on my face. Kind of depends on the shave soap or cream that I am using. That also determines which brush I choose.
I build the lather in a bowl, seems less messy that way and I can dial in the water ratio a little easier....
I always lather on my face, both soaps and creams (which I rarely use) I find that I get better results that way.. I never really liked bowl-lathering.. But thats me..
With Creams I definetly lather on my face less cleanup. For soap I lather in either my scuttle or mug.
Soaps .....on my face. Used to be the same with creams.......but I am moving more to a bowl with them!
Always have been a soap man, lather directly on the face, seems to save me making a big mess of things. Which I am prone to do..........
Do your ears hang low Do you lather in a bowl What size is your badger knot Or do you use a pre-shave oil :: c'mon everybody....sing!!!!
