Looks like an organized version of my setup... I pull it out each use :( I've been using more steps of grinding compounds ... But may minimize mine ..

    Awesome

Why is it that my one take-away from this thread so far is "always respect the tip"? :)

I'm in. I might be too scared to use it at first, but when I started with the DE a few months ago my goal was always to work up to a straight eventually.

Words to live by....;) whether it be archery, knife-throwing, injections, or straight razors.

Not that I've drawn a significant amount of blood while straight shaving—in fact, it pales in comparison to the frequent weepers & occasional gushers I garnered from DE shaving—however, most of my self-inflicted boo-boos have stemmed from misjudging where the sharp point ends and my tender face begins.
Rarely have I gotten nicked by the keen razor's edge...

Okay, here's where we started….:sick007::sick007: Yucky blade & useless scales…..

    TRANSFORMATION:
I'm happy to say THIS is the razor to be given away this Sunday eve….
The scales are made of Lacewood—an easily-workable wood that has a unique pattern (hence the name!). It is also a very light wood. This by far the lightest razor I've restored.
It should be quite easy to navigate for a straight razor beginner. A poly-based finish was used & buffed with Renaissance wax.
The pins are solid brass, as are the double washers. The wedge is ebony.
The blade cleaned up surprisingly well with only minimal pitting remaining. Low-gloss finish on the blade. Compare the above photo to the original taken and you'll see I had to remove quite a bit of buildup.
That's it… a 5/8 hollow ground razor with a German-made blade and stamped, 'Miller & Co. Detroit' a Motor City Shaver….Now its time to take it to the honing stones….

If you've not entered your name yet, there's still time, but the clock is ticking. 7:00pm Sunday (PST) I'll draw a name (actually I'll use a random generator found online.) :lyrtuy5:
