I shave daily since my beard grows pretty fast. I've always shaved daily and after 30 years of shaving have just started to use a brush and soaps. What a difference this had made in my daily shave. I get a much better shave that lasts longer and It's much easier to shave the next morning. Oh the wasted years!
I was never able to shave on a daily basis, because of how raw my skin felt using cartridge and the can, until I began wet shaving with a DE. I am not sure what has made the difference, but I shave everyday now and look forward to it with no irritation at all.
This morning i shaved a heavy 3 days of growth, and i can say, the result was a lot closer, confortable and smoother than a everyday shave, also it's better for your skin. In my opinion it's kind of maniac to hack your face everyday with a razor( any type of razor). At the same time i understand that some people need to be close shaven everyday for their job, but god, when you don't work give your face a rest.
I've been shaving once a day since coming back to wet-shaving...On weekends I've been shaving twice a day...once very early before teaching and once in the evenings before playing a gig. I don't really need that one but I like the refeshing feeling I get from a fresh shave before I leave for work..Then at the first of the week when I go back to once a day, usually in the early afternoon, I kind-of miss the evening gig shave...If I do have week night gigs or if I'm on tour I'll save shaving til before the gig...It's almost like part of my warm-up...) Or if traveling by bus, I'll grab a couple of passes every now and then for a refreshing pick-me-up... I always thought I had a really sensitive neck area and the sides of the moustace area...but I love my equipment now and prep and technique makes all the differance...its like "how do you get to Carnigie Hall ?" Now even shaving twice a day on week-ends I don't get any irritation...Just great shaves...And because of teaching and gigging, I have an excuse so I don't feel I'm being excessive...)
I do a quick one-pass every day, so I look acceptable, and feel somewhat acceptable. I do a thorough 2+ 2 or 3 times a week, though
I've shaved every week day and quite a bit on weekends since I started shaving. Once I got really proficient with a DE I shaved every day. These days I've started bending on that. I shave when I feel like it. Sometimes that's the in evening, sometimes in the morning and sometimes I skip a day or two. I love the fact that I can shave at 7-8 PM in the evening and don't get a 5 O'clock shadow until 4-5 PM the next day. 2-3 day growth shaves are also great shaves that I'd hate to give up by shaving every day.. I like having the choice of when to shave and knowing I'll be presentable regardless.
I shave about five days a week. Being in law school, I often don't have the extra ten minutes for a DE shave, or the twenty-five plus for a straight shave, but I always try to get one in. Unless I'm giving my face a day off to deal with the serious toll winter is taking on my skin, that is.
I know this is an older thread, but I wanted to let you in on some advice that was given to me that cleared up the rash on my neck. I was at the fire station one day about 15 years ago and we were talking about having problems with our neck breaking out with little red bumps and ingrown hairs. One of the guys asked me how many times I used my blade before throwing it away. I thought for a minute, and really didn't have an exact answer. I'd never really given it much thought. After further consideration, I said I don't know. I use it till it hurts too much to shave with it. About 10 or 15 times, I guess! He said that he used to have the same problem until he started throwing away his blade after 3 shaves. I was floored! Blades are too expensive to just throw them away after only 3 times! But guess what, when I followed his advice I stopped having problems with rash and ingrown hairs! I've just started using the DE razor, but the reason I did was because I could no longer stand the thought of throwing away those ever increasingly expensive Mach3 Turbo blades after only 3 times. I had started trying to stretch them to 5 or 6. And they were pulling and tugging at my face. After finding out about the rebirth of the DE and how reasonably priced the blades were, I decided that if I could learn how to use one, then I could afford to start throwing them away after 3 shaves again. The first thing I learned about the DE is don't use any pressure! My first 2 shaves I cut myself up on my neck and had bumps. Since then, it's only gotten better! In large part, thanks to this forum! I hope you figure out what works for you, but at 17-25 cents a blade, try throwing them away after 3 shaves and see if it works for you.
