If I had yours it would be on its way already! Are forum owners trying protect their members from being scammed, or are they trying to keep their boards free of the drama from some Kickstarter campaigns? Both?
To me it reminds me more of that M Night Shymalan/William Hurt movie, where "Those who shall not be mentioned" exist, and those who speak of them have a way of disappearing without a trace.
Nice touch to include American made blades with the razor. I haven't used those blades, or if I have, I don't remember using them. I remember the Personna med prep blades were the equal of Feather's. Nice blades.
Lab Blues may be my new favorite, but I'm no blade aficionado. The main reason for choosing them was, like you said, a USA blade seemed to be an appropriate accessory. However, the last time I tried Lab Blues they were wrapped in printed paper and seemed much nicer in appearance. These ones are wrapped in plain white paper and the writing on the blade is smudged(at least on the two I opened from the same pack). The shave is beautiful, but I'm a little disappointed to put these cheap looking blades in with my razor. At first I was concerned they were knockoffs, but a little research taught me that they just changed wrapping to cut costs. Oh well. I might switch to Astras or something in the future because the performance is similar, but the SPs come in attractive and convenient little 5 blade packs with higher quality paper. I'd like to keep the American blades, but the aesthetics truly are terrible and that matters. We'll see.
I understand that the aesthetics are important, but I appreciate the idea behind using the Lab Blues. I find them to be a good blade, and support buying anything American made when cost is not prohibitive for equal quality. The way I see it, the razor is so cool you could throw in a couple of gunky, used old SE blades, and as long as this thing shaves like it looks, I am happy as a tick stuck in a boar.
I would also like to keep them around. What I think I might do is get/make a small envelope or sleeve to hold them. That won't happen on this run, though; they'll just be kind of tucked in there trying not to be an eyesore.
From the Reddit Blackbird thread: "Well this is a pretty ugly razor. It's as if the handle of an eyeglass screwdriver and a tiny mallet had a baby." I don't agree with him, but I did think it was funny (sorry). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that. Aesthetics might be important, but there's a large subset of people for whom buying American made is more important than appearances. In the long run, people will remember that you included American made blades with the razor, not what the blades looked like.
You got off lightly. Redditers go to a special 'Wit & Charm' school. The posters on Reddit are the ones who got through the 'wit' part, and dropped out before starting the 'charm' classes. Surprisingly, Rockwell didn't get roasted on Reddit. Instead the famous Reddit venom was redirected at B&B. Remarkable.
I find it hard to believe that anyone who can put up with the UI/UX of the Reddit site cares about aesthetics
I don't spend any time on Reddit, but from just the one wicked edge thread I read, I wouldn't be surprised if most of them were previously kicked off of B and B.
The Clean Shaver posted a soap review video with a Blackbird cameo including a head shave. No up close shots or words about the razor in this video, but here she is in action.
