I am saving for a €550 fountain pen. I will probably be able to buy it somewhere next year. It probably will not write better than my €50 Lamy Studio ;) Still it is worth the money for me.

I have an Elite Razor 26mm Manchurian($135), Shavemac 26mm Unique Silvertip($185), Maseto 26mm Extra Dense finest($35) along with a Wolf Whiskers 26mm Black Wolf Synthetic($85) and a Wild West Brush Works 24mm Tuxedo.

For me the badger brushes lather and paint much better than the Synthetics with the Shavemac being the best followed by the Elite Razor knot. Was the Shavemac worth the extra money? To me that all depends on the individual and what you want. My Shavemac has a very nice custom handle and the best knot I have used. On the other hand if I had never used the Shavemac or Elite Razor brushes I believe I would be perfectly happy with the brushes from Maseto or Wild West Brush Works although the 24mm in the latter brush is a little too small for my liking.

I picked up a Wild West Brushworks 30mm Tuxedo that is a joy to use.
