No I have not. I heard it's supposed to be good for acne prone skin.

I think I'll try this 1-3 times a week. I sometimes get zits, it's annoying. Usually it interferes with my shaves. But I don't have acne though.

I'm afraid It dries out my face, which makes me need balms and then gets zits from to much moisture haha.

Hmm..Interesting. My Girlfriend's best friend has that exact same issue. Hard-to-kill acne and oily skin.

Yeah, man it's sweet. We're going to try making her lotions. We got a huge tub of coconut oil, but we just need USB, beeswax, a pyrex mixing bowl, and a immersion stick blender.

I'm not a doctor by any means, but I can tell you what worked for my daughter.
Using a high loft super soft cotton wash cloth, she washes her face gently but thoroughly 3-4 times a day
using warm water and a natural soap. (She's using Chagrin Valley and Mike's now. Oil of Olay and Dove caused problems...)
Then follows up with a light/medium application of the alum block and allows it to dry.
It has worked wonders. She's gotten rid of the chemical concoctions she used to use.

Best of luck to your friend!

Thanks for the advice. I doubt she even knows what an alum block is. Does she wash the alum off after a while or just leave it on?

You definitely need to wash off the alum.

My daughter applies the alum lightly, and leaves it on until the next face wash.
It took her a bit of experimentation to find out how much to apply.
At first, she rubbed it on quite vigorously and make several overlapping strokes with the block.
She found that was too much, for it tended to leave a white film on her skin when it dried,
and dried her skin out too. A light touch, and little overlapping proved to be just right.
Most of the time she leaves the alum on and just washes it off at the next face wash.
She usually washes morning, early afternoon, and right before bedtime.
Applied sparingly, alum should not irritate or over-dry the skin. Some folks here use alum
as an underarm deodorant every day and don't have problems. I've done this many times too.
However, as with any other product that is applied to the skin, it is wise to try a very small area first
to see if there is any reaction. If not, your friend should be good to go.
