I shared today's Fatboy shave with my Old Type and a Wade & Butcher Cleverly Curved Blade. The CW was a little tuggy, but the Fatboy completed the shave flawlessly.

Tomorrow I will join the legion of Fatboy shavers. I received my first Fatboy in today's mail. I looks to be in very good shape and functions perfectly. It looked very clean but to be safe - I ran it through the sonic cleaner a couple times with some dish soap and then disinfected it in alcohol. I applied a bit of silver polish to shine it up some. Then lubed it with mineral oil. She's ready to go for tomorrow's shave. Below are a few photos. The last one is a bit out of focus as the camera kept wanting to focus on the dial numbers when I really wanted the date code. It is a 1961 G1.
Captain's Choice. Its ceramic and about 4 1/2 inches across. Comes in a variety of colors - mine happens to be cobalt blue. Easy to grip and really works up a good lather. I believe they have recently come out with one that is a bit larger - otherwise same design. However this size works great. Here's the link: http://www.captainschoicestore.com/lather-bowls/

I now know why everyone talks so highly of the Fatboy. Posted the below on SOD thread as well. Friday's shave: A significant event - my first shave with a Gillette Fatboy, 1961 G1. Have not used an adjustable razor since college when I had a Gillette Slim. Put a new Ladas blade in it and started at a setting of 2. Worked up to 5 by the time I was done. I think 5 or 6 will be about right for the setting. A very comfortable and close shave. The Ladas blade was exceptional in the Fatboy. Used my Simpson "The Colonel" best badger, Proraso Red soap and the matching after shave - after a bit of Nivea balm. Now off to take the wife out to dinner.
Here is an interesting article I read today about the Gillette Toggle, the forerunner of the Fatboy. It is very interesting. The Amazing Story Of The Gillette Toggle Enjoy: CLICK HERE
I am really enjoying the smooth shaves I am getting from the Fatboy. It is nice to not be cutting myself for a change (I set aside the straights).
