Is there any difference between the piccolo and the grande besides the handle? I'm looking to get a Fatip next month. Are the Fatips more aggressive than a gillette new?

No, just the handle is different. I have not had the opportunity to try a NEW but I can tell you the Fatips are aggressive.

Yes they are aggressive but not so as the R41 2011 model.

Is it more aggressive than a gillette new short comb?

Cool. I'm thinking on getting the piccolo, I'd rather have a solid handle than a hollow.

A word of warning - the fit and finish leave something to be desired.

:signs011: ...but they are priced reasonably.
Many people love 'em. I tried to, but no chemistry between us, and so we soon parted ways…amicably….:D

@HolyRollah , You have a good point. I have thought about giving mine away as a PIF.

Yeah I've heard the finish isn't Edwin Jagger level, I'm not concerned about it. I just hope everything fits well and there's no bent comb. The price is right and next month I'm cashing in a $10 eBay bucks cert so I'm snagging a piccolo for $15 shipped.

My Piccolo fits & works just fine. Nothing is bent or broken.
It's just a simple, very old design razor. As they say,
it's finish isn't on par with the EJ or Muhle. As best I can tell however,
it's solid brass and has a very nice heft.
While it certainly can be used every day, I use mine most as the
heavy duty mowing machine. Whenever I've not shaved for 3-4 days (or more)
I put a fresh Derby Extra in the Fatip and get the job done.
Oh, and it's a two pass razor. Unless you've stainless steel wire for whiskers,
you'll likely find yourself not needing a third pass.

    Enjoy!

With my gillette new short comb I still need to do a 3 pass shave. We'll see how the Fatip performs after 2 passes on my whiskers.

I have a Piccolo, it's a good razor, yes the finish could be better. I don't use it very often, if I want an aggressive razor I reach for my iKon DLC Standard. But with $130 difference between the two. The FaTip is just fine.

I just tried the one Mark graciously sent me. I was clean shaved w/touch up in 2 passes, with a little less work than I'd have put in with a Gillette NEW (which itself is not a chore but a pleasure). Had he not warned me it's aggressive, I'd have cut myself but ended up with a very nice, irritation free shave. And the surprising heft for its size is nice, too.

Can't say it'll replace my NEW LC, more testing is required. But it does seem a bit more efficient based on this first shave.

It is VERY efficient...at least to me. I find it smooth and "gentle". It is not too aggressive, but be aware of applying pressure...the Fatip don´t like pressure in any way...;) In case of pressure he will definetly bite you.

From what I've read, The Fatip is an 8 compared to the Muhle R41 as a 10, in terms of aggressiveness. The Gillette New is as aggressive as my Fat Handle Tech, which is quite mild indeed and requires 3 shims to be as aggressive or almost as aggressive as my Razorock Jaws which comes in at 6.5.
