I love Speick, but don't use it often as I find it a bit expensive for the quantity. Others I use frequently and greatly enjoy are Gillette Cool Wave, Malizia Uomo Vetyver, and TSD Desert Rose AS milk. I also like Yardley Gold Ice, but can't find it anymore. Malizia an Speick are great when you want a nice smell, but want it to fade so as not to get in the way of a cologne.
I forgot to mention Speik! Revised favorites: 1A) DR Harris Arlington 1B) Speik 2) Musgo Real Classic AS
I've only a few aftershaves... -Paul Sebastian -Nautica -Very Sexy (balm) -CK Eternity (balm) -Pinaud Clubman -Pinaud Special Reserve I also use Dickinson's Witch Hazel as well as So Totally Clean during the day. I have an alum block, but I don't rally have a use for it. I prefer the Special Reserve after shave by Pinaud over the rest. It's a strong masculine and stays with me all day. I've heard others describe it as leather, tobacco, and vanilla notes. I would describe it as vintage leather bound books. Not sure if you could describe a scent as dark and heavy, but it's defintely a lot heavier than a lime or a citrus scent. I find balms overly greasy, even if used sparingly. I like the drying affect of alcohol based after shaves. I don't mind using the after shave as my main scent and just not using a cologne at all.
I like the organic scent of the mosswood shaving cream from JM Fraser. How would you describe the Booster Mosswood? Is it an earthy, woodsy scent? oops, that question was supposed to go to Jeff.
If you want to stock up on a few aftershaves, there's a website called http://www.appletonbarbersupply.com/index.htm which sells many shaving products at affordable prices. However, its best to wait till you want to stock up because theres a flat rate of $10 shipping.
I like everything I have. In no particular order, I use: Barbasol Brisk Barbasol Pacific Rush Pinaud Clubman Master Bay Rum Ivy Club Spice They are all excellent. For more special occasions: Armani ASB TOBS Sandalwood A/S
Pacific Rush (with extra menthol, really) Pacific Rush with a bit of Pinaud Clubman mixed in Osage Rub
I have found that Masters Bay Rum is my favorite A/S. I read several good reviews and so with a certain amount of trepidation, I found the nearest Sally Beauty Store and found the Masters in the back corner. At less than $10, I figured if it didn't work I would just throw it away. First time I used it, I fell in love with it as an A/s. I haven't had much of a burn problem, in fact it seems to sting less that Clubman Bay Rum which was my first choice before! The glycerine works very well on my skin. The scent is not too strong but it is pleasant. As an A/S it works well for me.
