    Feb 3 Focus Shave 2

Today's razor is Dovo Master's refreshed on J Nat then Dove red/black paste.

The edge was not rough but not smooth. I am not sure if it is because it is a full hollow or the J Nat or my honing skills. The edge was not dull but did not feel sharp. I was surprised when I did the alum test, on the faintest tickle so excellent on the irritation front. Just short of BBS. Surprising result give how the shave felt.

    Soap: Route 66 Barbershop Hop
Brush: Wolf Whiskers Spring Forth TGN Finest
Razor: AlumiGoose with Triad Aristocrat Ti
    Blade: Kai Captain Mild #6
Post: Cold Rinse, Witch Hazel, Unrefined Shea Butter, Chilled Floid Blue Aftershave

An excellent 3 pass BBS one today. I used the Seygus DE Razor, from Spain, for the first two passes and the AlumiGoose for the third pass. The Seygus is a nice well balanced razor with an aluminum head. It gave me a very comfortable two pass DFS. It's a mild razor that left me with a considerable amount of stubble after 2 passes. The third pass totally eliminated the stubble and left me with a scary close shave. The Shea Butter felt soothing and the very cold Floid Blue even better. I hope you all are having a Wicked Wednesday. Stay frosty my friends.

An even better shave than yesterday and as close to BBS as possible without actually nailing it. All this with two passes. The first WTG, the second ATG. I dropped my brush in the sink and didn't feel like lathering again so ended it there. I plan to stay with the Type A until this blade dulls, which I don't expect this time next week.

Think of it as a public service announcement and reminder of the dangers of Osage Rub.

Shaved this morning but needed to dash off to work, so just now posting.
Continued with the Supermax in the Old Type and whipped up some MWF to see if perhaps a slicker lather might improve the results. Normal 2 pass with minor touchup followed by cool water rinse and a small amount of additional touch up. At this point the blade felt harsh on my neck, so I set the razor down and backed away. The closeness was about the same as yesterday: a near BBS. Nothing wrong with that, but I also picked up two weepers. One on the cheek and one on the same rough spot on my neck that I found yesterday. I had ample lather remaining. The brush had at least enough for 2 or 3 more passes. The Clubman stung a good bit, but that didn't last. That’s when I spotted the spot of blood on my neck. I ended up using a styptic pencil to keep it from returning.

A mostly comfortable near BBS from the Old Type loaded with a 4 day old Supermax Super Stainless. My neck was a little tender for a few minutes. I think I'll keep the MWF for the next shave and replace the blade with the Rapira Super Stainless. I guess I’d forgotten how aggressive the Old Type can be. ;)

I hope everyone had a nice Tuesday

Day 33 was an impromptu study in lather. Route 66 hangs with Arko in the lather arena, and crushes the Turkish Giant in post shave feel. I definitely needed some moisturizer after an Arko SR session. Anyhow, tried to replicate the stroke pattern from yesterday, and had decent results. The stropping must be going ok, the razors are staying sharp and smooth for now. I missed a bit on the right jaw to prevent BBS, and tried Adam's advice on short strokes on the chin, and had a pretty good shave after two precise passes. Called it good, Alum was better, ISZ was ISZ , and the Veg is still for the heroes. Chalk another up for the good guys! Had the pleasure, sincerely, of shoveling a foot of new snow today. It's my favorite winter activity besides overeating. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.
    Have a wonderful Wednesday!

It sounds as if you just lost the angle just a bit with a dull blade. Tomorrow is gonna be a good one.

Very, very Good! It's my personal theory that all razors are essentially the same, in the sense that angle is everything! So good to hear of your results!

Wouldn't near BBS with little irritation, with a blade that's hard to feel, mean that you nailed the edge prep?

I think so, I think it is due to lack of technique and the shaving gods that I did not nail the BBS. I also touched up a razor that is 1/2~1/4 hollow on the J Nat. I will be interested to see how it behaves.

    Homemade PS Oil
    Stirling Synthetic Brush
    Mitchell's Wool Fat
Henry Sears and Son Queen 5/8
    Stirling Unscented PSB
    TOBS Sandalwood AS

Today's shave was just all around pleasant. I broke out the MWF for the first time in a while, and got a very nice lather. I did a single pass with no clean up and ended up with a CCS and no irritation. I just seem to be able to get so much better reduction on one pass with the straight than I do with DE razors. It is very nice, as it definitely helps to keep the time requirements down on work mornings.

Thanks! Funny, I just fell into this razor. I bought a gold Tech on eBay and the seller sent the Old Type out by mistake. He contacted me and apologized for the error even before the razors came. He told me I could have the Old Type if I wanted to, so I gave him the little he asked for it and became the happy owner.

Mitchell's Wool Fat is a great soap. @clint64 was kind enough to give me a sample. It's lasted so long, I'm almost embarrassed. :happy005:

Bill that was about half a puck of MWF so I am not surprised that it's lasting a long time.
