Go ahead and put the puck in the ceramic container and cover it with warm water now. It will fully hydrate and expand to fill the container better. This will make it easier to load the soap also. Just load the soap and add water slowly as you lather. It really not much different than other soaps.

Great write up on the Bolzano. I had good luck with a sample pack I tried when I first started out and then forgot about them til now.

I think the key is to let the soap soak before using it the first time. It just makes things work so much better. If you use it fairly regularly the long soak is a one time thing.

    Weber Polished Head DE
    Feather (1)
    Kent BK4 silvertip badger
    Jabonman Oriental Breeze
Alum, Thayer's Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and CC Bay Rum

Today was my first shave using one of my Jabonman soaps, Oriental Breeze. When I opened the container, the scent literally filled the bathroom. I would best describe it as a complex blend of fresh scents with some wonderful spicy and woody notes. I used my trusty Kent BK4 brush paired with my Becker brush scuttle to enjoy some warm lather. It was nice and slick, but it will take me a couple of shaves to dial in the correct water to soap ratio. ATG, XTG for near-BBS results, as usual, with the Weber. No touch-ups (yes!) and one tiny weeper (ugh!), and overall I'm very pleased. The CC Bay Rum and Jabonman scents combined well for a nice finish. This is about as close as I come to a luxury shave!

My lovely Bride approved, and we plan to celebrate our Valentine's Day today! :love055::love055::love055:

Have a great weekend with your Valentine!

After 44 consecutive shaves with my Blackbird, I decided to take a break. It is my favorite by far. I do, however, have a few other fantastic razors. I'm in the nb16 club, so I'm not spending any $ but I am in a Pass Around on another forum and chose a Slim and a Plissoft to trade out. The slim came out and gave me a good shave.

I think I'll bow out of the rest of the February focus and just experiment a little the rest of the month.

Bill, that is a great looking scuttle! How would you compare the shaves you're getting with that beautiful Old Type vs. the New LC?

Lost my focus today. The pull of the Darkside was strong today. I did one pass with the straight and got my best straight shave yet. I received the Hoffritz yesterday and had to use it for the second pass. My first shave with a slant and it was nice.
