Surprise... I have a razor with a crack! Couldn’t resist the chance to get a Sub Cero for the price of a DE89. And here it is upon showing up: Took stock of what I had and went forward with just working the wedge end. Took my CAD drawing machine out (aka Sharpie) and got my shape laid out. A straight cut would bring me too close to the F so I went round point. Slid the wedge back the same distance as the blade reduction (yes, shockingly I actually measured ). The dremel came came out, and the cutting wheel and sanding drum did its job. I added a bevel to the top end of the spine to mimick the look from factory and I used the DMT325 to sand the front of the blade, holding it perpendicular to the hone. I like doing this to keep right angles on what I am sanding. Final shape: Honed it up and I have a nice, budget Filarmonica Sub Cero. I think I want to go back and take a little more of the gold wash off, parallel to the edge contour, to make it look more from the factory. Thanks for looking and have a great Christmas! Tom.
Question for you.... what was the original length and what is it now? I’m guessing it reduced the length of the by maybe 3/8”. Seems like it would still be a fine shaver and would not even be noticeable. I’ve passed on razors like that in the past. I guess I missed out on some good opportunities.
Very close... right at 1/2 inch. I measure the Filly 14s at about 2 & 7/8 and this is about 2 & 3/8s now.
The trigger for me on this one was whether I thought I could keep the “F”. Once I thought I could I made the offer. Didn’t want to sand off the gold wash in this case.
