I had my first BBS today and my god my face is smooth! I've had my partner and my mother stroke my face just so they can feel how smooth it is! The were both really impressed. My weapon of choice was Merkur 34c and Supermax blades. This time however, I changed my prep; it wasn't after showering (that was out of circumstance rather than choice) but I made sure I really washed my face, then I applied a lather of palmolive classic cream let that sit for a minute, washed it off using a warm towel, applied warm lather let that sit for a minute and then began to shave. Result: a BBS! I'm definitely going to be doing this again! The only problem is, the shave was so good I'm worried I'm going to have to wait longer for the hair to grow back so I can shave again! I want to shave tomorrow!
Just be careful not to chase the baby....it gets faster the closer you get. Sometimes you need to just do what you do and if the baby shows up, awesome. If not, you can always try again tomorrow, it normally only gets ugly if you continue beyond this point. Sorry, didn't want to be Debbie Downer.
Yes, chasing the baby is good advice; after my first BBS (above) the next shave ended up a bit painful as I applied to much pressure and I ended up with some nasty razor burn on my upper lip. Not fun. Remember: NO PRESSURE!
Just recently resumed wet shaving after a 20+ year gap. Decided to use vintage Gillette DE's this time around. For the first shave I used Neutragena cream for sensitive skin and a late 1940's Super Speed. Blade was a NOS Super Blue from 1960. made two passes. Great shave with no irritation or nicks. Next day I used Col Conk Bay Rum Soap with a Fatboy set at on the #3 blade exposure mark. Since I had success on the first day I did three passes the second day. Removed the beard but also some skin - six minor nicks and and some lower neck abrasion. Will be more conservative tomorrow and find a styptic pencil. Glad to be back!
