The original boar knot in this Barbershop brush actually worked pretty good but the last time I used it the knot fell out. Instead of trying to glue it back in I decided to replace it with an 18mm TGN finest badger that I had laying around. I would have preferred to replace it with one of the TGN boar knots, but there just wasn't enough room to expand the hole without risking damaging the ferrule, and the 18mm finest fit perfectly without doing anything except remove what was left of the old glue. While I was at it I stripped the old lacquer off since it was in kind of bad shape, and applied a couple coats of Minwax polyurethane. Here's a couple before shots, I stuck the knot back in for the first one. Here is the finished brush.
Great job! I may do something similar with my Dad's barbershop brush... After cleaning, it's losing hairs like crazy!
Absolutely stunning Tom! I never gave that handle shape/size much thought until I was gifted an Omega 98 recently. (nothing nearly as nice as yours, but the shape is similar) It has quickly become #2 in my rotation.
Thanks again! I always liked using the couple of Barbershop brand brushes I own, especially this one because the original knot worked really well. This style handle is very ergonomic and fun to use, I've used this one twice and it performs flawlessly, the TGN finest is outstanding.
