I was in "Mayberry" not too long ago on a business trip through the area, it is the real life Mount Airy North Carolina and there really is a real old time barber shop there but closed the day I went through. Howard McNear who played Floyd the barber actually had a career in radio as Doc Adams in the radio Gunsmoke dramas before they went on TV. I was listening to one the other day, maybe I've lived too long but it was interesting to hear it again.
I've been using my beard trimmer to cut my hair since last summer. But when I was paying for haircuts, there was a nice little place near my old apartment that only charged $5.00 for a haircut. I always gave the lady $10.00. I even went out of my way to go back there when I moved to a different neighborhood. The last time I went there the prices had skyrocketed to...$7.00. If I ever decide to grow my hair out again, I'll definitely be going back there. They were always very nice to me and the cuts were perfect. I never inquired about shaves there.
Haven't paid for a haircut since...ya know I don't remember, probably at least 10 years now. Every Sunday I simply retire to the Shave Cave, clean up the dome, jump in the shower and have a good face shave after. Works like a champ.
Not quite that long for me, I used clippers for a few years, than shaved my head last spring. I'm considering trying to track down a barber who does head shaves with a straight.
