FREE CREAM - The Shave Cream Challenge

December 3 - D

D did have a scent but I couldn't really identify other than to say "herbal". It was quite mild. The sample lathered easily, formed a good creamy lather and persisted through both my passes. There was residual slickness on my face between passes - enough to do touchups - about the same as A and B.

Has a mild amount of menthol or something similar in it, so it provides a cooling sensation during the shave that lasts for a few minutes after. Postshave feel seemed better than the other creams, mainly because of the menthol. It does feel a bit drying later so a postshave balm or splash is a good idea, especially in a dry climate.

Overall it's another decent cream.

 

First use of D as well. Overall I liked it but it wanted to leave a sticky residue on the edge of my str8. It seemed like I had plenty of water but leaving the residue hints like it may dry out quicker(?). Tomorrow is another crack at it. I haven’t had a “Williams” moment with any so far. I’ve gotten accustomed to looking forward to a different cream each day. Too bad is is closely coming to an end

 

Gave B a try this morning and the first thing I can say is whoa on the scent. It was like opening a bag of lemon drops and shaving with it. Luckily I like lemon but if you don't this would be awful because is lasts the whole shave and it's strong. The cream was slick but I feel like A was slicker. The lather was easy to make and lasted the entire shave no problem. Post shave I feel better than A, it's not great but less drying than A.

I finished with L this morning. It was a nice finish. I like the scent and the performance on this one. I will get my ratings sheet submitted in the next day or two.

Finished C. Two more to go.

 

Used C this morning like the scent a faint woodsy kind of scent not too strong but not too weak. It was the easiest to lather so far and the lather held up well. It wasn't as slick as the other two were though. Post shave feels a little dry as well.

My first impression as well. The second time I used C; I threw a lot of water at it and that helped. Initially the lather was sticking to my blade, and running water wouldn't take it off. I actually had to wipe the blade. Second time with more water, solved this issue.
I would actually be interested in buying this cream.

 

Finished up my last sample today, L, and it was nice. Probably the best overall sample, for me anyway. With the exception of four of the samples (A, G, H, I), even though they were Ok, the other eight I wouldn't mind getting. I'll be sending my results to @Vlasta soon.

 

First shave with B. Lemon meringue pie. Slick and nice lather. Another winner.

 

Nice lather for "K" - did you struggle to get it like this?

 

No, it lathered easily for me.

 

Did you bloom it in any way? K is deffo harder than the rest...

 

My K lathered fine. My L was a cream wrapped in paper. I had to scrape it off the paper.

I did not bloom K and it performed fine. Sorry for the confusion.

 

Phew. I thought you had discovered a secret I could not unlock!

 

Steve, when everyone is done, it would be interesting to see how different some of our responses were (anonymously of course), where one person loved one of the creams and why, versus another that hated it.

 

December 6 - E

Used sample E this morning. Uhmm... Was a little harder to lather than the first four. Not that it was exactly tough to lather but I did have to chase some of it around the bowl for awhile before it agreed to quit being soap and become lather, and it took a bit more whipping to get the lather past the bubbly stage. Not a big fan of the scent either. It didn't have much scent as far as I could tell but what it did have I didn't particularly care for. Also, it left a white residue in my sink - the first one of the creams I noticed doing this.

Having said all that, once I did get the lather to my satisfaction, it worked fine as lather, persisted through all three passes, provided adequate protection, left residual slickness between passes, yada yada yada.

Bottomline, if I had a tube of this cream, I wouldn't throw it out, but I wouldn't race out to replace it once it was used up either.

 

Used sample D this morning and it is easily my favorite scent so far a nice semi sweet cologne smell made me pair it with Fine Platinum which is a great thing. It was incredibly easy to lather of course all of them have been so far. It had great cushion and it was pretty slick though not the slickest so far. D definitely lasted through the shave in both scent and lather. Post Shave this is the first cream that didn’t leave my face feeling dry. This is my favorite sample so far.
