FREE CREAM - The Shave Cream Challenge

Sample H done. It had dehydrated quite a bit, so only had enough for 1 shave, but it made a slick and shiny lather quickly and did what it needed to do.

I hope to finish this adventure this week. I am having a hard time sticking with it.

 

Sample K was a medium hard soap chunk. I ended up squishing pieces into the bottom of my suribachi bowl so I could lather it.

Like J, this was a fairly strong scented soap. Some sort of flower / herbal mix, not sure what and not wildly fond of it. Had a bit of trouble with the water/product ratio but the lather came out okay and the shave was alright. Didn't notice much residual slickness between passes and I only did two passes with it. Postshave feel was good - no dryness.

I would like to know what this soap is so I don’t buy it (like B and E).

Overall, I have had better shaves, but I have had ones that were a lot worse too.

 

Shaved with G this morning as everyone else noted it's very soft to the point of basically being liquid. It has a very strong floral menthol scent that my sinuses disagree with. It lathered easily enough but the lather produced wasn't very dense nor very slick. I liked that it was mentholated but that's about it.

Sample L

Had to scrape it off both the paper and the inside of the plastic bag. It had squished and looked like it had half-melted and soaked through the now soggy wax paper. The scent had a bitter, almost pungent undertone to me, like something half-spoiled.

Lathered up quickly and well and shave performance was excellent. Postshave was rather drying.

Assuming the sample hadn't spoiled in transit, I would not buy this soap because of the scent. Works though.

I will send in my sheet as soon as I figure out how to do it -- I have kept my notes on paper so far.

 

Shaved with H this morning and it was quite nice. A very earthy scent that lasts through the shave no problem, slick and easy lather and my face actually feels a bit better after using this one. This is my favorite so far and I'm glad because the last few have been a bit rough.

That could be. I don't have experience with Proraso creams, just the tubs.

 

I think I know what G is. If I'm correct, it's not Proraso green.

 

So, @Vlasta, now that I have sent in my results, can the secret of the universe be revealed to me? Or, if not that, then at least the list of creams I have tried?

 

Inquiring minds would like to know.

Knocked out sample J this morning. I rubbed the solid chunk on my face like a shave stick and had plenty of lather for 2 passes. Good enough. No objectionable scent, but was a little dry feeling post shave.

 

Head shave tonight and face shave tomorrow and I will be done with this challenge. It stopped being fun a few shaves ago. I can't take the pressure!

 

No pressure. That's just @LevelupShaves breathing down your neck in the homestretch...

 

Shaved with I this morning and I'm 98% sure I know what this is. It was a nice croap very slick a nice cherry almond scent that would be fitting for Santa. Plenty of slickness plenty of cushion and a decent post shave feel.

I thought it looked too white to be cella(?)

 

It definitely seems like Cella though scent performance all of it.

I thought it might be Vitos Red or Green label. They are soft Italian almond-scented tallow soaps very much like Cella. About the only differences are the Vitos soaps are whiter, more putty-like, and the almond cherry marzipan scent is just a little bit less intense. Shave performance is virtually identical.

In fact, since I couldn't tell any functional difference between them, I mixed my Cella, Vitos Red, Vitos Green, Valobra Soft Almond Soap, and a 3P sample all together into about a pound of one single "soft Italian almond frankensoap". I call it my Red Green Duct Tape Special.
