Decent razor that Featherweight. And, it is of course not possible to be sure, but I would suggest that the Gem blade wrapped with cardboard as that one is, is very possibly a PTFE coated Ted Pella blade - in my opinion the best blade type for shaving out there. You are missing out by not giving it a whirl. But, I see that you are very happy to move it along. So be it! More Single Edge razors for the rest of us!
I totally understand your apprehension, When I first got my 1912 GEM JR I felt the same way. I paid three bucks for it and got it just because it looked kinda cool and I thought it would make a great addition to my "old stuff" shelf on my bookcase. But I kept picking it up and holding it in my hand a turning it around and it just felt like it would be a great razor. So I ordered some of the Ted Pella blades from the TSD store - thinking that I will give it a try, hate it and then get on with my life. NOT the case. My 66 SS will always be my favorite razor just because it was my first razor after cartridges. However the 1912 NEVER stops surprising me when I use it. If it is not a BBS shave it is darn close, and the sound it makes just increases the experience of the shave. I still do not use it all the time but when I do I am glad I did. I also have a GEM Micromatic clog pruf. It is also a very nice razor, not quite as good as my 1912 but still very nice. One thing I learn from it is to keep trying new things in this hobby. After all it was trying new (ok old) things that got me hooked on wet shaving in the first place. I know someday I will move on to straights as well. Happy Shaves to all!
I think I can help you man. Get a box, gently place those suckers in a box with my address on it-just enough postage to get it Chicago. Get it to post office asap-especially the leather catcher, I can tame it. :happy102
Sorry don't know about the blades it came with 4 all wrapped in cardboard with Gem stamped on each, Like I said I'm sure someone will enjoy this razor, There are so many different types out there and we are all so lucky that our forefathers where not as wasteful as this generation otherwise there would be nothing for us to try.
The Gem Featherweight is a neat little razor, and if you can handle a straight you wont have any problem with it. I'm mostly a straight razor guy myself, and my SEs rarely come out, but they do come out from time to time. It'll be worth your while to give it a try. Best Regards goshawk
