Gillette Blade Dating

    Hello,

    I was wondering if you could answer a question concerning the date of a blade i have.

    I recently purchased a card of Gillette blades in boxes of 10 blades each (unopened, made in USA) All the boxes are the black on red thin type that I understood came out in 1938. I carefully opened one box and then opened one blade wrapper and saw a golden/yellow colored blade. The date code was 'D 1" . This confused me as 'D" is the code for 1933 and used again in 1958. 1933 is too early and 1958 was the blue blade period. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

    Gillette Thins were Gillette's cheaper blade. They were sold in the US all the way up until 1990, at least (I have some 1990 ones from France and some 1988s from the USA).

    With a golden blade, I would guess 1958 would be the correct date. There were many "golden" blades on the market immediately before the Stainless Era......
