I loaned my rocket out to a friend and got it back last week. I really missed the shaves I got with it.
The shaves are aggressive, but mild. The TTO action is very smooth and it's very well made. Plus, the reverse thread knob is pretty cool. BTW, I'll post pictures later; but I have a 40's style Rocket.
Probably just have to break down and buy a Rocket off eBay one day. I don't think I will find one in the wild where I'm at.
I just found 2 rockets in my closet that I didn't know I had....oops! (Pic below) Having used a rocket for MANY years now (well maybe 7), I can attest to them being one of the finest Gillette's ever produced! I have a Gillette 51 ( aristocrat Jr) in constant rotation and love the feel of the patent pending 1940s rockets. However I have never found a flare tip rocket that I have liked. They seem a bit rough for me. (I am ashamed to say I have owned probably 20+ rockets in the last few years...)
I've been wanting to try other Rockets, but don't know where to start. I'm so impressed with my 40's Rocket, but don't want it to be a standalone.
I think you'd like the Aristocrat Jr. It is a hair more aggressive than the 1940's but still an incredibly comfortable shave.
Thanks! I've heard that the Flare Tip Rockets aren't as effective as the earlier model Rockets, so I don't think I'll waste my time on them.
Haven't shaved with it yet, but I found this gem at the fleamarket 2 wks ago. From the weight ane the even handle-to-TTO its a parat. Though not a clue if the case or blade pack matches. Ps- only 4€
