I'm drooling like a dog who hasn't eaten all day as my owner brings out a bowl of Alpo. Rhetorical ?: Why were Gillette's (an American company) nicest razors made and sold only in England?
Gillette England ran under it's own management and made it's own designs until the 1950s,then all was standardized with different advertising/models for non U.S markets.
I guess they were targetting the "tea and crumpets" crowd, while in the U.S. they were targetting the "hamburger and hot dogs" crowd.
Had that been real, the ad would have been next to those for Sea Monkeys, Charles Atlas, Confederate Money, and 100 Toy Soldiers. Plus, you would have had to send in the Broomstick of the Wicked Witch of the West to get the "Free" razor.
