Gillette used the phrase "old-type" to refer to the early razor in its introductory1921 ads for the New Improved (in addition to using "Old Type":for the post 1921 $1 razors'). Krumholz adopted the same usage in his Guide to Gillette.[IMG]

Yes , I was looking for ads of US production so labeled but just found the Canadian thus far.

I had to look at my collection of Old Type razors and thankfully I didn't work on re-lining this case. It's faint, but it does show "OLD TYPE" written inside the top, it's US made. As far as I know, this type of case came out in 1920 or 1921 in both the US and Canada. Maybe @mr-razor might know the earliest use of Old Type in Gillette's description of this type of open comb razor.............

Well logic dictates it wouldn't have been an Old Type before the release of the New Improved in '21, per the ads above.

I just looked up the serial number. Only noticed now because I was cleaning and polishing the razor, 1922. A year after the introduction of the New Improved models.

In adverts these were generally referred to as Brownies at the time rather than Old Types.
