im looking for a classic barber shop scent. I have TOBS My Taylor’s cream and Fine aftershave Classic American and both have this classsic scent. Any recommendations for a cologne?
From basenotes.com; "the scent was Inspired by YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme (2003), and consists of a Fern base accented by geranium, lavender, oakmoss, patchouli, and a hint of Gaiac wood." post #17 There's your recipe for the scents you may be seeking. +1 & +1! Both inexpensive and capture the Classic Barbershop scent. While Pinaud Clubman is sold as an AS lotion, it's got good staying power. Canoe comes in several mixes that vary in alcohol and scent oil percentages, but are a similar scent to the Pinaud.
Here's how I apply Clubman(and Shulton Old Spice for that matter). I wet my hands , shake off the excess water, shake two drops of Clubman into my palm, rub my hands together and apply to to my face. With just those two drops of Clubman I can smell it all day.
Just go out by a bottle of Rive Gauche, why by imitations when you can get the real deal. If you can find the older ‘shaving can’ version even better. The stuff is powerful and long lasting, you just need a few squirts so it will last a long time. YSL Rive Gauche is as good as it gets.
I'm surprised no one brought up my favorite ... Special Reserves by Pinaud! Hard to get a manlier scent ... Like Indiana Jones smoking a Cigar in a forest of pine!
aftershaves tend to disappear quickly on me.i use them at night after a shave, clubman, old spice ,av etc. mornings i wear proraso wood and spice cologne, polo blue , mont blanc legend.casual for work and last the day.
I'm going to try S.R. with my Stoylin Barbershop soap this fall. That could be interesting . I've been using regular Clubman, but as I still have a lot of S.R. left, I'll try the latter(but not in place of the orginal Clubman itself).
