I got my new Mongoose in yesterday, it is an Alumigoose. I had my first shave with it today. It shaved very nicely as expected. I had a stainless steel model last year (batch 2) and although I liked it I was not overly impressed with it. But since then I have been using a lot of vintage SE razors and I now look at the Mongoose with a different perspective. Before I got this one I was using my Ever-Ready 1914 razor. I do enjoy shaving with the 1914 but I have to say the Mongoose is much smoother. The GEM blades seem a bit rough the first couple of shaves. While I find the Feather Pros to be a very smooth blade. In fact I am really considering selling or PIFing all but one DE razor and all but one vintage SE razor that I own. I think the Mongoose will be my daily driver from now on. I just like those blades. BTW I see no difference in the way the Alumigoose shaves compared to the stainless steel model.
C'mon Man! 2 1/2 years you've been here!! You know the rules by now - NO PICS, DIDN'T HAPPEN Enjoy your new toy, my friend. May it serve you with many great shaves to come.
Every time I try to post a picture, it tells it's to big. Believe me I would love to post a picture. I will try again right now. Same message.
You do know I want one. Clint, I found the head awfully light for a Stainless Steel handle. This is solely based on holding not using, I'd be interested in seeing how a handle like the stock Edwin Jagger or Muhle 89 would work out.
Keep in mind the Mongoose SS handle is bigger and heavier than most. I bet it would feel better balanced with a SS Ikon or Weber handle.
That's so true. The way @Omelmad Mongoose is you have absolutely no balance, he might want to give his Weber handle a try to? Good stuff.
I used it with my Mongoose handle and it worked fine. I do think it works better with a lighter handle. Either way I think they made a winner with AlumiGoose.
I really hope they are able to get these to distributors so that like ATT and Ikon, people can just order it without joining a wait list.
It would seem that these would be much easier to produce. That definitely would be great. Waiting on anyone's list isn't fun.
I use to use a Sabi handle on my stainless steel Mongoose and it worked out fine. I didn't care for the handle it came with.
