Bryan, did you use Noxon, Flitz, or some other polish, or did you treat it with MEK (or a similar solvent) to clean the areas that you did not prepare for finishing?

The prep this time since i got my air eraser is-grit blast all parts to be coated-clean inside if not blasted-wipe with acetone-100 degree warm-coat-warm-coat-warm coat with air brush fine coating-cure 300 for hour-cool-polish non coated metel with Flitz by hand and dremel type tool for 3 piece. The fat boy i took down to pieces blasted all corrosion out- cleaned- coated.
What i learned make shure the fat boy works and is stright at the comb bar do any repairs that can be done first (soldering broken setting spring ect)

The red indicators on the FatBoy, was that resin or paint that you used?

It was auto touch up paint brushed on dabbed with Q-tip and rolled, when it skinned over rubbed the cardboard part in sawing motion knocking soft paint off. acetone on Q-Tip to remove any smears away form the number hope it stays put testing will tell.

Thanks for the offer on refinishing! I wish I had one to send you, but right now all of the finishes on mine are good.

I don't plan on taking one down anytime soon, but you never know. I like knowing how things work and just saved that link away for future reference!:D

I got some barbacide type disinfectant and use it to soak the razors I've bought off of eBay overnight. I know it wouldn't get out bad corrosion, but I would think that it would at least help soften things up to ease the take down. Either that or some knock loose spray for metal parts. I've got some stuff at home, can't recall the name now, but it works real good on rusted corroded parts. I'd soak one in that overnight before taking apart.

Keep up the good work! Can't wait to see your next masterpiece!

    NEXT!!!!!!

    Fat Boy #2 (Thanks NoahG)
I took it down to parts blasted all parts except the main tube and the adjustment ring. Coated the rest. What i learned make sure the bar comb is straight, make sure the razor operates before doing anything else.

    Bryan,

I LOVE the two-toned FatBoy! It really sets it off. From the looks of your pictures, it appeared there may have been some heavy corrosion on parts of it.

You really did a nice job restoring this to another lifetime of usefulness:signs107!

Now you got me wanting to find an old FatBoy or Slim, just so I can have a two-toned!:D EXCELLENT DUDE!

I just bought two slims. On to trade and the other I hope to get all black. I like the two tone but it just... I don't know. I really do like it though. I might just get it all black.

GOOD JOB again. All of these are looking wonderful.

I've got an extra FatBoy, but the finish is pretty good so I hate to sandblast it, just to refinish it!:ashamed001

Ya the razors I might send are good shaver quality. There is some platting missing and such. But still good quality. I think it would be better to just send some razors that have been used and loved.

    But that is my opinion...

PS I didnt say it above but the black and gold... DAM that is good looking.

Unless your fat boy or any razor is corroded or missing lots of finish i wouldn't refinish it. I has many years to go. With that in mind small pits or areas of corrosion on the metal can rip the nickel off and keep eating the base metal. I tried for weeks to buy a ebay damaged razor to coat and kept getting out bid.

yup... the pictures didn't show it, but the fat boy I sent to Bryan to coat was down to the base metal on the silo doors and on the handle. Otherwise, I wouldn't have done it.

    Awesome!

The stainless and black were made for each other. I've been wondering what the stainless looked like. Very nice.

    Bryan,

The stainless almost has an aluminum look from the pictures. Not that aluminum looks bad. Does it look more like stainless in person or do the photos accurately reflect the coloration?

Just like the black it looks different in person i think it is a great match to bead blasted stainless with a touch more glint if that makes sense. aluminum to me is a little more dull. Below is a pic with no flash might help.
