Hey guys! Sorry about the slow communication! I am moving, and have also been in the transition of a new job, so time for the board has shot down quite a bit. Sorry if there's been any trouble caused on my part! We are moving, but just across town to be closer to my work, our church and our friends. Looking forward to getting the box! W00t!
Thanks guys. Yes, all is okay just crazy with the job change and impending move. I also don't have internet access at the new job, so that also impedes things. The box looks amazing! can't wait to see pics from Oliver! BTW Jody, that avatar pic is awesome!
Just thought I'd post a quick update: No box yet what with the weekend and all - I tracked it and it apparently went out for delivery yesterday, but we had a) a pretty gnarly weather thing going on and b) no power. So I guess it's a possibility that the post-officer decided to excerise better judgement and wait on it. In theory it should be coming in today, but I don't get out of work until ten so I won't know until then. and yes, it IS driving me crazy...I really want to shoot home and see if it's there
My post office jacks me all the time by not leaving the package AND by not leaving a pick up slip. I usually have to go to the PO and fight with them. I hope this is not the case for you.
So far our p.o. Is pretty good about leaving notices etc, but we live in a small town (pop1500). Dad & I were out today and when we returned there was a delivery notice. (it was my "new"Wacker model 3 in all black. Will post pics in the haul in a couple of days.
GOT IT! Sorry for the delay guys. I actually got it yesterday (in a plastic bag tied to the mailbox) but had no way to post, until finally got power back today. I was going to post when I got home around an hour ago but...shower comes first. It has been a loooong time. I did root around yesterday by way of flashlight and candle power. Here's the box in all its disheveled glory: Here's a picture of my give pile: So here's the swap I have sorted out, if you have any objections please let me know. I know some of the stuff I have isn't quite as esoteric as some of you veterans, but I figure there's people out there looking to try the stuff. I do want to comment on the straight of unknown manufacture. I don't know if it's a result of wear, or if it's just the shape of the razor, but it has a kind of slope - slims toward the tip. Also the scales are a mess. For all I know it's perfectly restorable, but I only bring it up because I don't want to put stuff in the box that no one will want. I'll post a picture in a bit. The non-razor/brush stuff may be open, but is either unused, or used once (except the NIVEA, about 60% full) Give List: Schaeffer DE Schmachtenburg Solingen Straight Unknown Straight Personna Red x30 TSD Sensitive Shave Cream Pinaud Clubman Lilac Vegetal Ever-Ready 500 Badger Brush Durham Duplex Art of Shaving Sample Set KoS Pre Shave Oil Maroma Men Cedar Lavender Soap Nivea AS Balm (not pictured) Take List: Gem Featherweight Omega Brush Godrej Shave Cream Honey Bee Spa Brut Soap Arko Shave Stick Crawford Straight 2 Packs Voskhod Blades 1 Tube Key (great idea by the way jeff - it's the little things you never think of) and I made myself a little blade sampler: 2 Medical Personna, 1 Blue Personna, 1 Feather, 2x SE Blades I haven't tried to pack this stuff yet, I'm off now to see how the cramming goes. This thing really is chalk full!
Here's the straight, let me know what the ruling is. The box should be going back out on friday. Count down starting........now.
That straight is pretty much used up. It is not going to take up much space, so I see no problems with putting it in the box, but I think its shaving days are over with.
Good to know, thanks Jeff. Unless someone wants it I'll leave it out. Just out of curiosity, was that originally the razor's shape and it's just worn anyway? Or was it once a normal, even looking blade?
I am no expert but, originally, that razor probably would have looked like a rectangle, or perhaps a rectangle with a rounded point. It looks like the razor was originally a hollow ground razor, judging by the concave portion of the shoulder. When a razor gets a taper like that, it is called toe wear. In addition, you will see that the spine of the razor is nearly level / flat with the rest of the blade, which is a sign of very heavy hone wear. Originally, that spine would have been taller than the concave part of the blade. As it is, that razor has very little, to zero steel left to hone back to shave ready condition.
