I'll do it! (or as close as I can do) gilette fat handled tech proraso shaving cream (but I'll probably have to cheat on the AS) Aqua Velva is too strong scented for me =(
Hey I know someone who would be perfect for this. He even likes to use one of those white Williams hockey pucks.
Don't forget about the Colgate pucks too..... but like most say I do a Grandpa shave most days... Fuzzy
Just discovered this thread--I'm in! My upcoming Friday shave will be the following: 1956 Gillette Red Tip Superspeed Late 1950's Old Spice Shave set (badger brush with badly deteriorating handle, OS mug, and VDH soap--original OS soap is long gone) Pinaud Bay Rum A/S If the handle on the brush falls apart--a distinct possibility--I will default to a more modern brush. This will be fun! Vance
I might use a vintage shaving stick I have from Germany called Dalli-Werke. Does that allow me to be eligible? This stick is from the 1950's, I believe.
The only "vintage" I have, is shaving soap of De Vergulde Hand which is around for 450 years....... Only I bought my stick just a few weeks ago So I'm affraid I won't be in....
I couldn't say no to a puck of Williams soap today at the grocery store. I'll be kickin it old school on Friday Hot Shower 1908 Gillette Single Ring Williams Soap Dickinson's WH Corn Huskers Lotion Aqua Velva Classic.
I've got some of those... but they are Straights and I don't want to mess with those before work. Maybe on a Friday night.... Honestly, I thought this was a one Friday thing and not an every week occurrence. But that is even better. Don't use a vintage brush, but these modern boar brushes can't be that different than they were for Grandpa.
I'm not up to date on my tetanus shot so no 40 year old DE blade for me. :shocked003 Seriously though...this will be fun. I think I'll use my 1908 Single Ring, Valobra soft soap (same formula since 1903) and alum block as an aftershave. I will be using a modern brush though.
Hiya, I was just looking this thread over, and I think I'll play too. I should have all the items needed for Geezers Day. Plus, it gives me an excuse to try something out. I'll use a scrubby old Rooney(which I like) from maybe the 50's-60's, some NOS vintage English Gillette blades, and every razor I own is between 40 and 90 years old. Then I'll finish things off with some vintage(50 years) Old Spice AS. Oh, the thing I get to try out(just needed a good excuse) is a 50 year old NOS can of Old Spice shaving cream. Yeah, I got this(and the AS) about a year ago and have used the AS quite a bit ever since. Heh, well, tomorrow I'll crack the top of the can and see what comes out. Nice idea starting this thread. Martin
I will mostly have to use stuff that is representative of the older things.. Do not actually have vintage AS or such..but old spice it is with Williams Mug soap and a NEW Standard. As has been pointed out most of what I use can be considered grand pappy shaves. And this week can still keep with the OC week theme.. Fuzzy
I think I will have to shave like a Saba (Hebrew for grandpa) on Saturday, or Sunday. I planned already my shaving set-up for tomorrow.
I'm interested. I just want to know, does a refurbished brush count? I have a Cavalier and an old Ever ready brush, but the knots have been replaced with new silver tip badger hair. Apart from that, I'm in. Apart from the brush, the cream I will be using is Barber Special shaving cream made by a Melbourne barber supply company that has been around for quite a while. And I don't have any straights that wouldn't be old enough.
As far as I know. But people really aren't making a production out of it. I have been following through (just not promoting)
