    Good Friday morning all...

    Fat Handle Tech w/ Feather
    C&E BBB
    C.Bigelow sc
    Thayers Original WH w/ aloe
    Lucky Tiger a/s
    C&E Sandalwood Edt

Face and head shave today...the Tech/Feather combo is still working very well resulting in a BBS shave. The Bigelow (Poraso) cream is always good for face and head shaves with lather to spare. I have never used a pre-shave oil but I almost always start with a coating of glycerin soap (either Neutrogena or Pears) for the first pass. Works for me...

    Dave,

Sock suspenders! :happy102 Talk about something that is old time. My dad used to wear them but he always called them garters. In essence that is what they were. They wrapped around the upper calf and had a tiny "garter" that hung down to the top of the sock and was attached to the sock. The part that wrapped around the upper calf could be adjusted for different size calves.

    Thanks for the memories Dave.

    Grampa Shave

I know this thread was killed but I wasn't in the Den yet and liked the idea and gave it a try.

Face wash with Castille (olive oil) soap.
    VDH soap
Boar brush from the 40's or 50's. Dated it by the Catalin handle.
    GEM open comb razor
GEM SE blade (these are new but that's to be expected)
Thayers Witch Hazel (supposedly same formula for over a century)
    Master Bay Rum

Since this was my first shave with an open comb I was conservative. WTG on the face but WTG/ATG on the neck. For some reason my neck is a lot tougher than my face so I don't worry about irritation. Got through with 2 small nicks and that was caused by improper seating of the blade in the razor. I remembered the warning about getting the blade corners UNDER the nubs after I got bit.:signs081 Sorry meant to put this in the General Forum. If someone can move it do so. Thanks

Thread was reopened, and I moved your post where it belongs in the first place.

OK, just so we're all clear, do we want to track Grandpa Shave Friday on a separate thread or leave it in SOTD?

I think Grandpa Shave Friday is deserving of its own thread. That was quite a brainchild OldGI!

    Grandpa Shave Friday

Mods, can we make this a sticky? I'm revising the rules of engagement for GSF to clear up some past inequities but the basic idea is pretty much the same:

Razors: New school tributes to the classic safety razors of Grandpa's time are authorized however whenever possible razors at least 40 years old should be used. Straight razors of any type (including shavettes) also qualify for Grandpa Shave Friday. Again, though, straight razors at least 40 years old should be used whenever possible.

Soap/Creams: The key word here is traditional. Grandpa didn't have the internet. TSD, Mama Bear, and TGQ were still years away. Grandpa used traditonal soaps and creams he could buy at the corner drug store or grocery store (i.e. Williams, VDH, Tabac, Proraso, etc.) only these sorts of traditional products should be used on Grandpa Shave Fridays

Witch Hazel and Lotions: Use what you normally do but for complete accuracy lotions should be as close to old school as you can get.

AS/Cologne: Again the watchwords here are traditional and classic. This part won't be a big stretch out of the ordinary for most of us. We're talking about Aqua Velva, Clubman, Old Spice, English Leather, Murray and Lanman's, and of course their European counterparts (Speick, Floid, Tabac, etc)

    Hot shower
    Glycerin pre-shave
Erasmic Shave Cream and old boar brush
Schick Adj. Injector razor with Schick blades
    Thayers witch hazel
Old Spice 1967 vintage. Still good and I only use it about once a week. Gotta make this last.

Next Friday will be interesting. I'm going to try out some 1950's blades  in my ball tip Tech unless someone talks me out of it.

    Hot Shower
    1910 Gem Lather Catcher
    Omega Boar Brush
    Williams Soap
    WH/Corn Huskers Lotion
    Murray and Lanman Rose Cologne

Nice shave. I'd have to say that this razor and my fat handle 1912 are probably my #1 and 2 favorite razors in my rotation. Decent lather today without the noxema pre shave but it really is far nicer with the noxema pre-shave. Have a good Friday everyone.

    Gem Featherweight w/ Pella (3)
    Semogue 2009 LE #19
    C&E Sweet Almond Oil ss
    Dickinson's WH
    Floid Vigoroso a/s
    Musgo Real a/s balsam
    Guelain Vetiver Edt

Switched the blade from the 1912 Damaskene to the Featherweight to see how it works...I think the Featherweight is slightly more aggressive, but I got three passes out of the SAO and a marvelous BBS shave to show for it. And it's Friday, to boot!

    Hot shower
Grandpa's late 40's Tech with Derby blade
    Grandpa's 1949 Old spice mug
    VDH Deluxe soap
    Omega boar brush
    Mennen Skin Bracer AS
    Mennen Afta balm

Very nice shave! Smooth, close, and no irritation. Did a two-pass shave and only a little stubble remains in a small area under my chin. But that always happens.

Grandpa knew what he liked and what worked. I love using his razor and mug almost daily. I really miss him.......

    Noxzema pre-shave

Hope you didn't leave out the Noxzema for authenticity. Noxzema has been around since the 1920's.

    Friday 12 Feb 10
    Hot Shower
    Noxema Pre-shave
    Gem Jr. 1912 Fat Handle
    Antique Magna Boar Brush
    Williams Soap
    WH/Aqua Velva Classic
    Acqua Di Gio

Fantastic BBS shave! This razor has always amazed me. Aggressive as hell yet simultaneous very comfortable and mild mannered, delivers BBS shaves without much effort at all. Great Tunes today too! Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, Harry Chapin and Simon and Garfunkel. "Rainy Day People" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" get the game ball today.
