Been using a tube of Brylcream since I picked it up out of the traveling grab bag. I've become a convert. No more Ace for my hair. Today was my first use of Groom & Clean that I got from WalMart yesterday. I'm going to use the same amount & technique wit the. Rylcream tomorrow to see which I prefer. The scent of Brylcream is much, much better than G&C IMO. Also G&C is a bit cheaper for a smaller tube.
Found a full bottle of Dollar General's version of Vitalis today for fifty cents and said what the heck. Weather's warming up so Brylcreem and pomade are out until fall, and Groom n' Clean, which works well, always has a yeasty/bread smell. I have Jeris with oil but am afraid to use it in the heat, too. I have bottles of Avon's excellent old Hair Protein for men but it's so hard to come by I save it for special occasions. Vitalis works well in summer, I always knew that, but I also know it's always stunk. What to do!?! Followed a tip I saw elsewhere - I topped off the bottle (the neck, basically) with Avon Tribute...it approximated the fragrance neighborhood of whatever fragrance lies below the normal Vitalis petro-stench. You know what? It helped, a lot. Now I can use Vitalis.
Scratch the above. I took the mixture I made (7 oz worth) and mixed it into DG's Brut knockoff bottle, which was about 20% full. There was about 1" left at the top so I mixed in a bit of Jeris and just a touch of vetiver. Shook well, applied to damp hair. Some really nice green and citrus notes are coming from not sure which component but now it's good stuff, even better than before, which was WAY better than new. Long story short: Want to improve the smell of Vitalis (or a knockoff)? Mix it with Brut (or a knockoff).
I like Crew's Forming cream. Holds my hair all day without a problem. I never cared for pomades and waxes as they were difficult to wash out or clumped the hair.
I use a dab of a blue gel called "short sexy hair" I put dab in when wet, Comb my hair, and let it dry. it stays all day, wash it out at night. the gel is not greasy or sticky, once dry, but it is a little hard
