I answered "No, but in a pinch I would". I didn't switch to traditional wetshaving because I hated cartridge razors or canned goo. The switch was made because quality creams and soaps, a good brush and a safety razor gave better shaves at less cost than a cartridge razor. The cartridge razor and canned goo still gave OK shaves, however. My old Remington electric, when used with Remington-sold screens and cutting heads, gave pretty good shaves. That being said, I have not used the cartridge or electric razors since starting with a safety razor five years ago.

In my opinion, that is the essence of shaving. That traditional wetshaving is efficacious and cost effective does not automatically make other shaving methods bad. With Gillette Fusion cartridges now costing 5-5.5 times as much as a double edge blade, and triple blade carts 3 times as much, new possibilities are being considered. How many newbies have introduced themselves on the wetshaving forums noting they found the place when searching for lower cartridge prices online? Quite a few, if I recall correctly.

Yes I did actually. Recently, my son bought one of the gimmicky Fusion razors, and challenged me to try it! Being a guy... I couldn't NOT try it. My results are like one of the other posters above. With the technique that i have learned using a DE, I burnt my face up with the Fusion. Too bad really. I found this razor and a badger brush that I really liked and would have bought it if things had been different. Two things happened though...

    1. I found out that I like C.O. Bigalow's menthol shave cream. I whip it up in a bowl that I float in a sink full of hot water, and use a badger brush.

    2. I found some razor blades that really work with my Merkur. I am using an Astra Superior Platinum that I really like. I really like the Feathers too!

I also found out that if I am too rushed to whip up a lather, I would rather skip the shave till I can as I will not use canned shave cream again if I can help it!

Here's an image of the Razor. I am going to see if he can make me a handle for my Merkur 34c...
