Use the WH post shave, its a soother, use after the alum. I also use a balm, if you're prone to irritation and redness an alcohol splash like skin bracer won't help much. Use alum and/or witch hazel, and then a good aftershave balm. I recommend Pre de Provence, a tube is like 13 bucks on amazon and lasts a while. Doesn't take but a dab to spread all over. Once you can afford it or justify it, L'Occitane makes fabulous aftershave balms. Check out the Cade scent.
UPDATE: As mentioned prior I purchased a RazoRock Mission razor. I also ended up purchasing a RazoRock Plissoft synthetic brush and making some pre-shave oil using two parts olive oil and one part castor oil. My DE shaving experiences have got much better as a result. The RazoRock Mission is a great razor (at least with my very limited experience with DE razors). I would be interested if one of you DE shaving veterans agree should you ever add one to your arsenal. The RazoRock Plissoft does a much better job lathering my face than the boar hair brush I purchased at Sally's Beauty Salon. I would like to thank everyone that posted advice/suggestions for the help.
