Well dang. That is awesome. I am really impressed with the result. I have nothing against the later tech, or the black handle adjustables per se, I would just like something cooler for my birth year razor. And that is a pretty solid proof of concept. I think as far as a 1970 razor I can be proud of, that is the ticket. For me at least. Thanks
OK thanks. Well, I don't want to tear apart the one I have just acquired. It's like new. But, your post showing the altered one has me very curious. I guess I'll be heading back to that "auction site" to see if I can find a likely candidate for surgery. (and maybe re-constructive surgery)
That is pretty much my plan as well, please tell me we are not going drive up Knack/Twist prices by bidding against each other for razors to destroy... the Knack will become the new Fat Boy, everybody will want one... 'I swear, they were only a few bucks a month ago, then boom!, the price went nuts!'
When CoonCatBob was still with us, the market for Knack and Slim Twist heads did go up since many people wanted the mods he was doing with them. That was the only one I could find, but there are more images on other forums.
Don't worry, I'm not going to bid anything up too high. I figure at most a Knack in decent condition is worth about $10-$20. There are very, very few things I've ever gotten anxious about and paid more than a reasonable price for. Razors are a going concern now, but they'll slow down again. I've already picked up a few goodies from fellas who have grown tired of them and needed some of their investment back. I guess since I posted earlier that the Knack came in a case I should put a shot or two of it in here somewhere. It cleaned up pretty well and came with a blade holder and blade. (1 Platinum Plus) Now if I can figure out how to attach to an edited message..... Here we go.
Yeah, some razor prices have spiked, even in the short time I have been collecting them. But I was just kidding around. I have actually already picked up a pair of Knacks. Both date code P. One very nice, one less so. I figure that the lesser one will be the learning piece, then the nice one well be the project. Now I have just been trying to figure out what to do with the handle. I looked up as much of cooncatbob's work as I could find... great, great stuff. Very inspiring. I used to have a nice micro lathe, but I gave it way when I moved to NC. Just had too much stuff. Now I am full of regrets.
I wish you the best in your learning/construction endeavors Mr. Droid. I've been looking at a milling machine, but it's quite something ($$$$$) to justify for hobby use only. I like to do as much as possible with hand tools only.
