There seems to be a lot of love for pure badger brushes. That's cool. I thought in my ignorance people would always say to go for silvertip. I have one silvertip, and its performance is outstanding. But my 2 pure badgers are fantastic too. Admittedly different, but I love them.

I concur with the idea of buying them both. They are both inexpensive, and Larry at Whipped Dog will set your loft for what you want;low for lots of backbone, somewhere in the middle, or high for a light backbone. If you don't know what you want, discuss it with him and take his advice. I bet you'll be super happy with the results.
Just a disclaimer; I don't own a Whipped Dog brush, but the one theme echoed over and over in every thread I've read is that A) those brushes are a steal, and B) Larry is a guy who really aims to get it right for his customers. If I did not restore my own brushes, I'd have full confidence working with him to get exactly what I wanted, at a price I could afford.

Go for Whippeddog. Larry is extremely helpful in helping you select the best brush for you and the handle selection is outstanding.
