I took a similiar piece off of my thumb with a microtome at work. (Pathology Lab). Funny thing...we use blades made by Feather....It will grow back but will hurt and feel funny (tingly and numb) for a LONG time. Live and learn.
Steve, I hope you heal up OK. Totally seems like something I would do. The picture of the chunk of finger in the bowl was a nice touch. I was trying to figure out what that was as I scrolled to the next picture. [shudder] Good reminder to be careful. I keep a small jar of denatured alcohol above the bench I hone on, and use it to clean the blades of tape residue. This reinforces that idea. Glad to hear it was a good shave. I can just picture my wife shaking her head if I shaved with the same razor after I did that.
Oh my god, I hated every second it took to read this as I knew what was coming but I had to keep reading hahaha
Sorry it happened but thanks for writing it up for the reminder to slow down and pay our equipment the proper respect. Heal quickly and definitely glad it did not permanently impact the trigger finger!
Those who live by the sword... I've cut myself a couple times drying/stropping my DE blades on a towel. Nothing like what happened here but enough of a wake up call to remind me to respect the blades. Hey, bad things happen. What are you going to do give up? Nope. I appreciate your positive attitude and caution to others. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Hope you heal up quick. On the up side you've now rewired your synapses so dude voice will be overridden automatically whenever handling your razors which saves you from worse possible things. The heightened sensitivity in that finger should actually stabilise your hand and tighten your group when shooting. Then theres the aerodynamic argument plus weight reduction,,,,faster maybe? Kudos on the testicular fortitude it takes to go back and complete your shave, thats the only way to go so all plusses. Shave on.
I did that with a hatchet some years ago, and mine looked like a cleaner cut. Yes, I was stropping it the time. I didn't go to the hospital, preferring to cover it and knowing it would heal if looked after. Besides, I didn't want to tell them what I was doing at the time, for fear of ridicule. Yes, it healed over but the bother I've had with it just isn't worth it. If I abrade it in any way, the covering "skin" just wants to come away. It's quite often painful and I really wish I'd got it seen to at the time.
After seeing on Broadway Sweeney Todd Demon Barber of Fleet St! it kind of left a sour taste in the back of my mouth.
Oh trust me.... I said something over and over and over that would quickly get me put on restriction here were I to repeat it! The other funny thing was, I did not want to get the wife's nice dish towels bloody and the towel drawer was on the opposite side of the kitchen! Had to dive over as fast as possible, so as not to dirty the kitchen, and find a nice dark red towel! Funny the stuff you think of even in the midst of an incident.
To everyone who has sent me such wonderful warm wishes for a speedy recovery, THANK YOU. Please accept my apology for not responding to each of you personally, but know that I truly do appreciate the kind word and affirmations. Heck, I even enjoy the good natured and well deserved ribbing. THANK YOU ALL. Steve
Good to know about using a dark red towel,my wife just saw my latest slice tonight on my jaw bone it happened 2 days ago but I got the blood out of my shave towel so she didn't find out so soon.
