Can these blade banks be found in any stores, or only online? Any chance a hardware store would have something similar for that kind of razor blade?

I've never seen them in stores, but there are few DE shaving supplies to be had in my area. I buy mine from West Coast Shaving. They are $1.00. Other online vendors have them also.

I was going to joke -*********************. But that is childish and in very poor taste, so I won't.

I glued the top of my metal watch container, cut a hole and plop the razors in it. I figure in some 8 years or so I may need another.

2 years ago I bought a metal Piggy Bank in the shape of a pig from the Salvation Army store for 0.99 cents.

I'm still putting blades in it. When it finally is full I will just toss it away.

1] Open a can of your favorite beverage (don't push tab in too far when opening can)
    2] Drink till empty
    3] Rinse can with water.
4] Grab worst knife in your kitchen.
5] Turn can over and use knife to punch a slot in the bottom of the can.

End result =====> instant sharps container.

I use a Double Edge Razor Blade Bank from Em's Place. They hold quite a few blades, take up little space and are very inexpensive.

    pardon the rant, but.....

If anyone is putting used blades in the trash, please rethink. Just because there are no young ones in the house doesn't make it OK. A blade's journey isn't over once it's pitched into the garbage.

1.) Tossing loose blades in the trash creates a hazard to people (trash collectors, etc.) children and pets (say, if the blades wind up laying in the street) and wild animals (think landfill).

2.) Stainless steel is recyclable, so you can put them in the back of the plastic or metal dispenser or use a blade safe and put the whole thing in with recylables when it's full.

Simple enough and it keeps everyone safe.

I carefully place them in a used coke can in the garage and when the can is full, I place in recycle can.

I chunk mine in the garbage. Its easier on me I guess. I would be more worried about the tin can lids and bottles in my trash. We had a party this weekend and I took out 4 bags of cans, bottles, etc. That would be an absolute disaster to step in! Kind of like on Saw? I would take the single blade over the buttload of bottles! As soon as they smash and break that it a true disaster waiting to happen. I think the chances of kids or wild animals finding my DE blade is pretty slim. I might put a whole in my medicine cabinet so they go behind the wall though.

I was going to use one of my Taylors shaving cream tubs as soon as I empty one.

I do the empty can (chicken broth is what I used - easy to rinse out)... punched a whole in the top, the blades slide right in, the can stays under the sink in the cabinet out of view, and everything is hunky-dory. One of my kids' chores is to collect the trash from all the rooms, and I'd hate to have something happen to them accidentally. To me, once it's out of the house, though, anything's fair game and if you're a trashman or just like to pick through people's garbage - it's on you to be responsible for yourself. As for animals eating my garbage, I don't have that problem, and I guess it'd be a fairly good deterrent for them to stop now, wouldn't it? Survival of the fittest and all.... :happy102 If I were single, or at least had no kids, I'd probably just toss them straight out, I don't know....

+1 They only cost a buck (less if you make your own) and it takes quite a while to fill. Well worth the money to avoid possible injury.
