Can your regular stove top fan deal with the smoke? I got a rather sensitive smoke detector that triggers rather easily
Strange thing is I don't have a stove hood with a fan. My stove is about 2-1/2 feet from the back door. I set a small fan on the counter, face it toward the open door, turn on high. I've never had a smoke detector go off. I really don't think the volume of smoke is as bad as one might be lead to think.
I had heard that about the Behmor as well but I've had mine for over 3 years and it's still going strong. I roast about 2 lbs/week. No doubt popcorn method works well and is less expensive.
I roasted once indoors. Never again. All roasting is now done outdoors over a gas flame. By the 2nd crack stage of bean roasting there is plenty of acrid smoke filling the air. If one does a lighter roast, smoke output is significantly reduced.
Great movie, richgem. I may have to snag that one today. Dreary, cold, nasty day today...good day to stay inside & watch goofy movies.
Just for fun, but in all seriousness, try this... take a drink of your coffee, but chew it, like you would a bite of food, before swallowing, then note the difference in the flavor profile. I have a couple of books on coffee by Kenneth Davids, and he suggested that. Fascinating books, by the way, "Coffee" and "Home Coffee Roasting", for those who want to delve a little deeper.
heh...I have another version of that, but it's probably not appropriate here. (btw...I just finished a cup of hand-ground Italian roast brewed through my vintage Melitta 101 ceramic cone. Off to the store to get some more!)
Yeah, I ran across several versions and most wouldn't have been appropriate, although the "cold and bitter" version wasn't bad.
Broke out Wilbur with some fresh-ground Panamanian... Vintage Wilbur Curtis LA63 "2 Cup Coffee Saver" (For you English fellas, that's a '50s Stratford-on-Avon 4-cup kettle in the background.
Espresso (double) for me and Americano for my wife. Vintage lever VAM \ Caravel machine. Ceado e37 grinder. Don't be fooled by the beautiful sunlight. Outside temp currently as of 3:25pm is -10c / 14f. Used Carvalho roaster Brazilian med-dark as shiwn on right in red bag.
