Watching the news and saw where, in some palaces, Spam has to be placed in security boxes. That's crazy. And I like Spam. Long story why but I do like it. I like to chunk it, fry it and add it to rice and fresh peas. Also like to chunk it, fry it and add to scrambled eggs. Or just slice it and make a yummy sandwich with it. So, tell me, how do you do your Spam??
As a kid, we had it fried. Left for the Air Force right out of high school, 1980. I've had once since. Don't think I'll have it again. Not terrible, but if I can put something else on the plate...
No disrespect to Spam or to any one that enjoys it; but I treat Spam like survival K-rations. Since it is canned and has an extended shelf life I use it like ham when I'm short on refrigeration. I lived in the African bush with very little refrigeration and any can food that could be kept was extremely valuable. Whether with rice, pasta, potatoes or eggs ...... Spam makes things tasty.
Spam is awesome especially spam musabi. Spam fried, japanese rice, wrapped in nori sheet. Mmmm mmmm hot damn good.
I like Spam. But, it has gotten expensive(relatively). I have tried the generic Spam, from ALDI's, HEB, and Walmart. I cannot tell the difference. i bought a couple cans at ALDI's for $1.59 this morning. Here is a Spam(or generic) recipe. In a cast iron skillet. 1 can Spam, cubed, and fried in a little oil, until crispy on all sides. 1 medium onion chopped, and cooked, then added to the cooked Spam. Add to the mixture, still cooking. 1/2+- tsp Onion powder 1/2+- tsp Garlic Powder Black Pepper to taste 1 package of frozen peas/carrots. Thaw under running water, while everything else is cooking. When the peas/carrots start to get a little color(browning), add 1 chopped Red Bell Pepper. Cook until the pepper just slightly starts to soften. Add 2-3 Tablespoons of soy sauce. To taste. It will be a little salty. The rice will even things out. A little water might need to be added, from time to time, to keep things from burning on the bottom. Then, just spoon over cooked white rice. Add as little or as much as each person wants. .
