Hey Johnnie, Good to see ya here!! I agree with you on the brush thing, I'm looking at a Rooney and a new Shavemac...
I've got a Simpson, a Shavemac and two Rooneys. Actually it's been months since I bought a new brush. Hmmmmm..........
Wilkinson boar C&E Travel brush eShave closeout pure scritchy badger Buffalo pure badger Just tried the Buffalo today (it is a vintage brush). It says pure badger on the handle, but the look of the bristles is different. At first I thought it was a boar brush, but no...first shave this morning with it, and lovely soft bristles, no scratchiness as I would expect from something labelled pure badger.
OK, you can add the B&B Finest Silvertip Badger Ebony Brush to the list. Yippee! It's officially 5 now.
Currently have 5 brushes + 1 more on the way At one point had 9 brushes. Some brushes had to make way for Str8 habit
I've paired it down to: Alexandre HMW (Plisson)- my everyday goto brush. Basically perfect. French travel brush- Euro Grey, small and scrubby. Everything else is being sold off.
OK, it's over ten now. Here at home I have four brushes in rotation: -SCS best badger (works great with soaps) -BOCK silvertip -SMF II (Shavemac) silvertip (works with soaps and creams) -OMEGA pure (black) badger (for creams) At my GF's home: -TRISA silvertip (that is more a cream brush, the badger hair is very soft)
I recently thinned out my collection.. What Im left with is: 1 Wilkinson Boar 2 Muehle SuperBadgers (My goto brushes) 1 Muehle SilverTip 1 Merkur Futur SilverTip 1 Vintage BestBadger Of the above I could not live without is my Supers.. I find them superior to soaps.. And I rarely use creams..
I purchased these to use, so just a few, but nice nonetheless. Plisson HMW No. 12 with horn handle Plisson EW No. 12 with clear acrylic handle Plisson EG No. 14 with black acrylic handle Simpson Tulip 1 in super Kent BK4 (coming soon . . . ) ShaveMac SMF I (my wife's brush, but she lets me borrow it) Rooney's Finest style 3/size 1
My road to the ideal brush has been long and expensive. I have tried many brushes, including the gigantic Kent BK12, several Simpson's, a Plisson HMW, SR 3226, and others. But I have finally settled on two brushes (plus a small travel brush) that fulfill all my requirements. I find the Rooney Style 1 medium finest a superb cream brush. For soaps, my favorite is the Rooney Style 3 small finest. With these two brushes, I have lost interest in acquiring any more.
I only have three Kent BK8 B&B Finest Silvertip in Horn Vulfix #2233 But in my own defense, I only started in April 2007.
