How many passes do you do for a routine daily shave?

2 and out for me for the last few years. I got good enough in my technique with all my razor arsenal to where I'm satisfied with my results. When I use my 2011 R41 I usually get BBS, with my other razors I end up with DFS always with the occasional BBS so since I'm fine with that on two passes I don't sweat touch ups.

 

Automatic 2 pass smoothness is the goal, most days I get it. I don't chase often.

 

Two passes. ATG both ways. Well, more like diagonally. Sometimes a touch up on the trouble spot on the right side of my chin.

Three pass on Mondays since I generally don't shave on the weekends.

 

Never less than three passes, never. Gotta be bbs, that's the way it has to be for one with OCD

 

3 pass for me. mabe some touch ups but I usually get burned when I chase the BBS

 

4 passes, I need to XTG in the other direction before I do the ATG pass. This allows me to have BBS without the irritation.

 

This. I have a fine beard, so 2 and a touch up is all that is necessary. Some days three just for the heck of it, but 2 and a touch up and I normally have a nice close shave with little or no burn.

 

I do two and a half passes. Same pattern I have been using since I started shaving, with all kinds of razors. N/S, S/N, then diagonal on the neck, and any touch up needed. With DEs, this was giving me either DFS or BBS. With straights, I am getting DFS, but not quite as clean in the neck area.

 

I didn't vote because I normally do at least 3.5 not including touch up areas. A couple touch up areas require multiple swipes in multiple directions. I have to shave ATG in 2 different directions on my left side. I will do a 4.5th pass if I have time. Razor burn on my face is rarely an issue, thankfully, or there'd be no such thing as BBS for me.

As many as it takes But seriously usually 3 but I often touch up several spots after that if I'm trying for BBS.

 

Looks like 2 passes has a slight edge in the poll. I see from reading other posts that I should have added a 4 pass and a 5 pass category for those who chase BBS or who just enjoy shaving multiple times.

I have always been a one pass kind of guy...with touch ups (yes I am talking about shaving)...and have achieved good results...though recently I have been experimenting with a two pass shave both WTG...and I am getting amazing results with absolutely no irritation. Always something new to learn.

1 pass, and maybe 2 on date nights. Any more than 1 will tear up my face too much day after day

 

Three passes with some touch ups on my neck and jawline. I apply cream every time to minimize irritation. I shave every second day.

 

I always do 2 passes. Sometimes I add some touch ups and sometimes I do a full third pass

 

3.5. - that's what it takes with this old beard. Lately that has been with the Phoenix Double Open Comb, and a Polsilver. The most consistently close shaves ever, and no irritation. I really like this little razor!

 

What instrument is common in this thread.
