My shave isn't so cut and dry. I try to use a few passes as possible so certian areas of my face get more attention than others. My side burns and cheeks are taken care of with two passes WTG/ATG/touch up if neccessary. My moustache', chin and adam's apple take a variety of WTG/XTG/ATG.

I can define how often I lather up easier.

I only lather up my whole face two times and then hit the other areas with one more lathering (upperlip, chin, neck). It sounds complicated but it only takes about 10 minutes for a great shave and cuts down on over shaving in certian areas.

I go all out a couple times a week with a 4 or 5 pass BBS shave, but most days it goes like this

    WTG - full pass
XTG on neck, chin, and under nose, ATG on Cheeks
XTG - opposite direction on neck, chin and under nose, ATG on cheeks
slight blade buffing touch up under chin where it seems to grow thickest

With my experimentation this seems to be the best combo for me, if I go all out, I add a pass or two ATG to the end of that routine.

I generally do two conventional, lathered passes; one mostly WTG and the second mostly XTG. The third pass is a touch up pass after I rinse off all the lather. I then splash on some Thayers non alcohol witch hazel toner and using just the Thayers for lubrication, do a touch up pass in various directions based upon feeling various areas of my face with my other hand.

Actually, I can achieve a BBS shave with just one lathered pass and the "Thayers pass" if I want to. I really do the second lathered pass mostly because I enjoy that hot lather from my loaded brush sitting in my scuttle. It also helps speed up that last touch up pass with the Thayers.

    Regards,
    Tom

Lately I do two passes on the top of my face (above the chin line) and three below. Using a superlather I take a bit of the leftover and rub my face looking for places that might need a bit of touchup!

3 passes WTG, XTG, ATG. Often some touchup in the jawline is needed.

    2 and a half :happy102

The first one is WTG, the second XTG and after that I do some touch-ups in the jawline and the neck, so I wouldn't count it as a full pass.

Thomas, I did it exactly like that this morning, but my 3rd pass was light.

I usually do 2 WTG passes and a possible 3rd light touch up or an XTG pass if I made too much lather.

All this is much too complicated. Too many "*TG's" to keep track of. I just shave ATG until my face is smooth.

On trouble spots, I might even re-apply lather if it's not BBS after I've hacked at it for a while. Then, I hack at it some more til it IS smooth.
