I just realized that awake2shave is in Ontario and I'm in Minnesota (ok, that second part I knew before). We have ourselves a real border battle going on here!

I really wanna thank Etoyoc for putting this together weather I win or loose its been lots of fun and you get my vote for most creative PIF!

 

Since both finalists have turned in their hands and just for fun I'd like to see how I would have done if I submitted this for my hand...

It is a beautiful day here in sunny Valparaiso. The sky is clear, the trees are budding, the daffodils and dandelions are about to erupt across lawns and gardens across town as we join together in the muddy fields for the final round of RPSLS.

The contestants square off and stare each other in the eye trying to gain some hint at the others intent. On one side we have the mighty 5savages. You may have to look closely to count them, but yes... yes ladies and gentlemen, there are 5 savages crowded into that body all of which are waiting to slap some RPSLS hands into motion. On the other side no coffee is needed. That's right, the other contestant is clearly awake. Not only awake, but awake enough to shave! And shave is what they want to do.. yes they want to shave that smiling smirk off of each of the 5 savages as hand by hand they shave those savages into dust.

A crow calls out, somewhere in the bleachers a toddler cries out. As the opponents approach each other, they wave their arms and hands to make them limber for the upcoming battle. A faint sound of music can be heard on the air, first it is that the theme to the Good, Bad, and the Ugly, soon it is followed by the elevator music from the Matrix.

The referee steps up to the microphone at the center of the field to explain the rules. The crowd screams in anticipation. A buzzer sounds, as the two mighty contestants begin the time old tradition of hitting their closed fists on their palms in perfect unison as they chant "rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock" three times in a row. Upon the final beat, they flash their hand gestures.

5savages has shown paper. Awake2shave has shown Spock. Paper disproves Spock. The first hand goes to 5savages. The savages whoop loudly as both contestants make their way back to their corners to prep for the next hand...

I think he's revealing 1 shoot per day. So we should know the winner in less than a week!

It was almost midnight when the two tributes were picked up on the roof top by the helicopter. In darkness, they were whisked away across untold distances. When the dawn broke the next day, they found themselves in a completely unknown wasteland where they would fight to the death. However, before they died they would have to try to impress their sponsors in order to receive any advantages they could over their opponent in hopes that they would be the sole survivor…. Oh wait…. Wrong story*
Back to the action… the 5savages won the first hand by using paper to disprove awake2shave’s Spock. Spock should have done his homework and not spent all his time playing space games. It was an interesting gambit and allowed 5savages to take the initial lead. For those not used to following the intense action of the tournament, by taking the initial hand, 5savages now holds an advantage over awake2shave. That’s right, not only do the mighty savages hold a 1 win lead, but in the event of a tie, the contest will default to 5savages by result of the first win achieved. Although fully caffeinated the opponent has to be razzled by that initial loss. However, nothing in his demeanor shows. Awake2shave carefully studies his opponent for any clue or any weakness he can uncover and allows his caffeinated pulse to keep a calm, controlled rhythm.
The ref sounds the bell, and both opponents walk up to the center stage. As the opening notes of Wagner’s Die Walküre fill the air, both opponents hold their breath and stare into the eyes of their nemesis. The electricity in the air is noticed by all the spectators. The ref backs out of the way while trying to keep a close eye out for any underhanded communications. As the anticipation builds, nervous twitters can be heard in the audience. As the predetermined moment in Die Walküre approaches, the ref signals the contestants. As the fist to palm ritual beings, the crowd joins in “Rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock!” A child screams in delight, scissors flash, and a lizard screams in pain and hand two is over. 5savages takes a second win as his scissors decapitate awake2shave’s lizard. Awake2shave nods to 5savages and they return to their ready areas to plan for the next hand.


*for those that don’t know the reference, that is part of the plot to Hunger Games….

 

As the contestants prepare for the next hand, you have to wonder what thoughts are going through their mind. On the second hand, they both used the classic advance one technique. However, with 5savages current lead, he can afford to take a risk. Awake2shave on the other hand has to try to out think his opponent. Is he the type of man who will put the poison in his own cup, or the cup of his enemy.... Cue segue....

Man in Black: All right. Where is the poison? The battle of wits has begun. It ends when you decide and we both drink, and find out who is right... and who is dead.
Vizzini: But it's so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you: are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemy's? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
The crowd begins to chant in impatience... "Spock, Spock, give him the Spock"... As always in every gathering of people, someone stands up, cups their hands to their face and shouts "freebird!" and there is nervous laughter while the crowd stares down the fool that dare tread on the sanctity of the RPSLS tournament field. Noticing the agitated state of the crowd, the ref checks to make sure each contestant is ready waves his arms at the sound guy, and "Lets Get Ready to Rumble" starts playing.

Man in Black: You've made your decision then?
Vizzini: Not remotely. Because iocane comes from Australia, as everyone knows, and Australia is entirely peopled with criminals, and criminals are used to having people not trust them, as you are not trusted by me, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you.
Man in Black: Truly, you have a dizzying intellect.
Vizzini: Wait till I get going! Now, where was I?
Man in Black: Australia.
Vizzini: Yes, Australia. And you must have suspected I would have known the powder's origin, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.

The contestants shrug off their robes and bounce across the field to the stage. As they take the stage from opposite ends, their eyes meet and 5savages flashes a nasty snarl at awake2shave. Awake2shave gives a huge bow to the ref, the crowd and finally to 5savages. They lock eyes and slowly side step to the center of the stage...

Man in Black: You're just stalling now.
Vizzini: You'd like to think that, wouldn't you? You've beaten my giant, which means you're exceptionally strong, so you could've put the poison in your own goblet, trusting on your strength to save you, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But, you've also bested my Spaniard, which means you must have studied, and in studying you must have learned that man is mortal, so you would have put the poison as far from yourself as possible, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
Man in Black: You're trying to trick me into giving away something. It won't work.

The ref gives the signal and in unison their fists hit their palms... "Rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock".... "Rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock",

5savages breaks eye contact and blinks....

Vizzini: IT HAS WORKED! YOU'VE GIVEN EVERYTHING AWAY! I KNOW WHERE THE POISON IS!

"ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS, LIZARD, SPOCK!!!!!!!!!!"

Man in Black: You guessed wrong.

The crowd goes silent, not since the Kirk incident of 2008 has the double lizard been played in the finals after the first lizard was beaten. It was a bold move and an impressive strategy for awake2shave. Clearly he was thinking that he could not afford to continue the advance 1 strategy and was betting that 5savages would apply the reverse maneuver. However, the 5savages kept the advance one approach. Rock crushes lizard, 5savages has taken another hand and now leads 3-0.
