$100 buys a little more than a container of MdC or a truckload of Arko. Talk about bang for the buck, and an end to flying insects in your personal space! I'd like to see those highfalutin economists come up with a better example than that.
With inflation I am surprised it is not a lot lower than that. nowadays $100 is not that much money which is sad. To make matters worse our money is no longer backed by gold so in reality money is just paper worth something because we believe it is.
I believe it's a state-to-state purchasing power comparison so I don't think inflation plays a role in these numbers as inflation is at a national currency level.
I don't think the chart shows the impact of inflation. It shows the relative value of $100 from one state to the next. To me, it is just a "cost of living" comparison between the states. It's interesting to see large differences in bordering states (ex: CO and NE, WV and VA).
Whaaaat? Lol I think I misunderstood you. A spend probably 100 dollars a week for a family of four. That number can go down depending if I start making dinners without meat.
Excluding DC and going by states only, NJ is second lowest . But this is where God has me, and He is my provider for all my needs!
I don't think this economist is comparing the value of a 1960 dollar vs. a 2015 dollar. Rather how much $100 will get you state by state. If you want to talk inflation, just change that $100 into $10... or less.
Reminds me of the Oscar Mayer commercial where the the guy asks the waiter what the special is. He replies, "Hand agitated Baltic Sea foam".
