I shower every day. I will try skipping days from time to time, but my skin and scalp gets worse if I don't deal with this daily. Besides, it works to soften the beard before the daily shave... right?
As a rule, every morning...shower & shave. But I would say about 50% of time it's two a day.. can't get in bed feeling grungy.
I keep hearing about this oil cleansing method, is there a website dedicated to it? I guess I could Google but would rather hear from someone in the know, you know?
There's tons of information on the web about it, and even a couple of pertinent threads on it. Here's the TSD one, and one at B&B. Basically, you mix the oils, there's a lot of options, but the two main things are a cleaning oil (the cold-pressed castor oil), and a thinner carrier oil (EVOO, jojoba, grapeseed oil, etc). From there you can add other oils, like vitamin E, tea tree oil, essential oils for scent, etc, but the basic recipe is the cold-pressed castor oil and a carrier oil. The idea is to open the pores with a steamy shower or hot towel, apply and massage the oil mixture, let it set a bit, and steam it further with a hot towel, usually a couple of times, the wipe off the excess. The castor oil dries and clears out the old oil, but it's thick, so the thinner carrier oils help to carry it deeper into the pores. It's basically and oil change for your face . Instead of blasting all of the oil off, thus frequently leading your skin to compensate by overproducing more oil, it clears out the old dirty oil and leaves a new layer on. It doesn't work for everyone, and you may find it takes a few days for you face to adjust, but it works darn well for me the past three years, no soap or cleanser of any kind has been on my face since. There's lots of info in the threads above, and plenty more on the interwebs in general, including benefits of different oils, methods, etc. Personally, I do about 50% cold pressed castor oil, 25% EVOO and 25% grapeseed oil. I don't measure precisely (anymore ), just by eye. Then I add a few drops of tea tree oil for it's antiseptic properties, and some lemon essential oil just because I like the scent. During the summer I'll often add a few (read: FEW) drops of peppermint oil for a cooling sensation Be sure and browse the threads, but I'd highly recommend trying it for at least 2 weeks to make sure your skin has adapted before making a judgement call on it. Hope this helps
from what I've read, you're right. but... I have to smell good at work, and living in central louisiana guarantees sweat. Even in the winter sometimes. So I bow to cultural expectations and shower and shave daily. Wish I didn't have to.
I look forward to my daily shower. It's refreshing. As for shaving, that I wish I could do twice a day! But, alas, I must settle for and enjoy the fact I can and do shave every day.
I suppose anything is possible, but here's what I know about my face and how I shave... I like to get as close to BBS with each shave. I shave in the morning around 5:00, 3 passes plus a touch up. I'm usually still pretty smooth come noon. To try and shave again in the evening would be too hard on my face. Now I could do only two passes, leaving a little scruff to come back and clean up in the evening, but then I wouldn't be BBS for the morning shave, thus I would not enjoy the shave. I also have the experience of having shaved three times in one day. It was back in Basic Training. We were going to have our final uniform inspection that day around 1030, if I recall. Shave number one came that morning (I was using carts and goo at the time). Shave number two came shortly before the inspection was supposed to happen. Hey, I wasn't about to be recycled (sent back to repeat) for failing an inspection because of a little fuzz on my face. Notice I said it was supposed to happen. It was rescheduled for 4:00 that afternoon. Yup - we had a break just before the inspection so I went in for shave number three. My neck wasn't right for a full week! I'll stick to once in the morning and BBS, thank you. A man's gotta know his limits.
Every day here, usually in the am to help wake up, sometimes a second time if I've skipped shaving in the morning. +1 on bar soap, recently switched back to it after 15 years and its wonderful. Use a shampoo bar too, been really great for my hair and scalp.
Every morning and sometimes in the evening. Morning is mostly to wake up and shave. Evening depends on what I've done during the day, or what I plan to do that night.
A shower a day Most of the time I shower once a day; but there are times that I take two showers in one day since I live in South Florida and it is hot and muggy in the summer months.
I try not to shower. But my wife will not let go without one. Everyday and twice if I get too sweaty from work.
Everyday at least once. If I am working and sweating twice. Since I work at home during the summer when it is hot and muggy I might go for three. One just to cool down. But I use homemade soap. Not store bought.
Had two today. First one this morning was my daily routine, second one this evening was to rid myself of the hickory smoke that was pouring out of the grill. The steaks were delicious, by the way! :happy108
On weekends only in the morning . M-F morning and evening. The morning one wakes me up and the hot steam opens up my sinuses, clears the frog outa my throat, etc. The evening one is because I'm an auto mechanic and therefore I'm filthy at the end of the day plus it's relaxing.
